CHOOSING THE PROPER TOWER (1) Determine the projected surface area of the antenna that you intend to mount. This figure is often in the literature that comes with the antenna. Otherwise: standard TV antennas are about 2 sq. ft. in area; 6/10 meter beams and large TV antennas are 5 sq. ft.; 20/40 meter beams are 9 sq. ft.; large 20/40 meter beams or multiple antenna arrays are 18 to 26 sq. ft. Also, when using a rotator add 1 sq. ft. plus 1 sq. ft. for the mast to whatever size antenna you intend to use. (2) Decide on the tower height that you want. Universal Towers are made in 10 foot sections to give you many possible sizes and the ability to add sections later. (3) Choose the tower model based on height and windload. The model number is merely the wind loading followed by the height.
