This course emphasizes a careful, disciplined approach to computer programming using Pascal. Problem solving through stepwise development of algorithms is presented. Students will learn Pascal programming language, syntax, coding, program logic, and program testing. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC, 2+2) This course is an introduction to the application of data structures in problem solving. Topics include set operators and manipulations, text and user defined file types, searching algorithms, sorting algorithms, recursion, linked lists, queues, stacks, binary trees, and graphs. Students plan and create Pascal programs using data structures to solve problems frequently encountered by professional computer scientists. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC, 2+2) This course presents the structure of the COBOL programming language syntax, coding, program logic, debugging, and program testing. Writing programs to solve business problems will be included. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC) COBOL: file handling, accessing, and updating; subroutines, overlays, and table lookup. Emphasis is placed on problem solving. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC) This course is designed to give the student an introduction to the Ada language. It will explain why it was developed and its purpose. The student will develop structured programming techniques including readability, strong typing, exception handling, data abstraction, and programming in the large. Important concepts will include using separate compilation processes to develop portable and modular programs. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC) Ada is copyrighted by the Department of Defense. Introduction to assembly language programming taught in a hands -on environment using personal computers with MS-DOS operating system. Topics include machine architecture, number systems, machine instructions, macro assembler program, linker, developing programs, debugging, and representing data structures in assembly languages. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC) Students will learn the fundamentals of computer programming, problem specification, design, and the elements of the FORTRAN programming language. The course will include writing and debugging FORTRAN programs, and program verification. Students solve real problems from business, science, mathematics, and engineering by designing, implementing, and testing FORTRAN programs. (Engineering and Science Majors consult counselors) (CSU, UC, AVC, 2+2) Short courses of varying duration on specialized topics in computer information science.
