Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2. Education 111 1-4 units comprehension to production of ASL. With expanded vocabularies and grammatical patterns being exposed, the students continue to develop their ASL competencies in numerous conversational settings. The main emphasis is to bring the students ASL fluency to a point of self-generated ASL for the purpose of furthering language use in ASL. (CSU, AVC) ED 33 *AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE IV Advanced study of ASL grammar. Further development and refinement of ASL skills and fluency. Accentuates aspects of deaf culture and community through spontaneously generated conversations. (CSU, AVC) ED 35 *CULTURAL AWARENESS OF THE DEAF Discussion of various aspects of the American Deaf Culture, including description of deafness, deaf people and the deaf community as defined by audiology and/or cultural means, services for and by deaf people, and culture as reflected in the language of deaf people. (CSU, AVC) ED 40 *INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATION Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2. A survey course for those who wish to enhance their understanding of the public school system or who are considering a career in education. The course includes an overview of the role of education as an institution in our society. Historical influences on education, responsibilities of teachers, certification requirements, and career opportunities are among the topics covered. (CSU, AVC) ED 43 *INTRODUCTION TO SPECIAL EDUCATION This course is specifically designed for prospective special-education teachers, parents, volunteers or aides interested in gaining basic information about the major disability groupings (i.e., mental retardation, visual impairment, com- munication disorders, etc.) in relationship to special education. The course will cover the history of the disabled, theories, current trends and techniques used in working with the disabled. (CSU, AVC) ED 45 UNDERSTANDING AND EDUCATING THE LEARNING DISABLED This course is specifically designed for prospective special education teachers or aides, community volunteers or workers, or anyone interested in having a better understanding of the learning disabled. The course will range from a history of the learning disabled in the public schools to definitions, theories, testing, current trends and techniques in working with the learning disabled. (CSU, AVC) ED99R *WORK EXPERIENCE Provides combined related vocational classroom instruction with on-the-job employment experiences directly related to a students occupational objective.
