10 Admission and Registration 2. Student expects to graduate at end of current school year using a combination of credits accumulated at other institutions and Antelope Valley College. To be eligible to graduate, the student must complete a minimum of 12 units at Antelope Valley College. When a student files a Request for Credit Evaluation, a summary of credits earned at other institutions and approved by Antelope Valley College will be posted to the students Antelope Valley College transcript. Transcripts submitted become the property of Antelope Valley College and cannot be returned to the student nor forwarded to another institution. Initiation of Registration Registration is by touchtone telephone. Students currently enrolled at the College automatically receive a registration appointment by mail with registration priority based on units completed. New students must complete a Request for Registration Appointment Card available at the Student Services Center Information Counter. New students are then mailed a registration appointment. Summer session registration is scheduled on a first come first served basis by appointment with no unit priority. Program Planning After the students transcripts and/or test scores are available, the student should make an appointment to see a counselor for the purpose of educational planning, academic advisement and counseling. Schedule of Classes A copy of the schedule of classes is available at the College Bookstore approximately one month prior to the beginning of the semester. Semester Unit Load The normal load for a full-time student at the College is 15 units per semester. For most purposes, the official designation of a full -time student is one who is enrolled in 12 or more semester units, while a part time student is one who is enrolled in fewer than 12 semester units. A student may not enroll for more than 19 units per semester without the written approval of the Vice-President Student Services. If a student plans to transfer to another college or university, it is the students responsibility to consult the catalog of that institution to determine course require- ments. Counselors are available to assist in selecting transferable classes. Physical Education Requirement All students are required to enroll in a physical education activity each semester in accordance with the Board of Trustees authorization, except those affected by one of the following circumstances: 1. Students age 21 and over; 2. Students taking fewer than 8 units; 3. Students having only night classes; 4. Students who have served in the Armed Forces; 5. Students may petition for exemption because of extenuating circumstances. Cancellation of Classes Students are reminded that insufficient enrollment for any class may warrant cancellation. Students should select alternative classes prior to registration. Completion of Registration To complete the registration by touchtone telephone, the student must pay all fees. Late Registration Provisional Enrollment System (crashing a class): Should an instructor have openings in a closed class, during the fist week of school he/she may allow additional students to enroll in his/her class based on the priority number on a waiting list that is established through the touchtone telephone registration process. Students with priority numbers must be present at the first class meeting to enroll under this system. Program Change and Late Registration: No new registration will be allowed after the late registration period. Exceptions: 1. Students with cards. 2. Students from cancelled classes. 3. Students who have previously registered but need to drop and add. Student Expenses Every effort is made to keep expenses as low as possible. Beginning with the Fall 1984 semester, all California Community Colleges began collecting the California Community College Enrollment Fee approved by the State Legislature and the Governor. Under the new fee program, designed to partially defray the cost of education and instruction materials, students are required to pay an enrollment fee of $13 per unit, per semester. Students who have baccalau- reate degrees or higher are required to pay a differential fee of $50 per unit. (Contact the Dean of Admissions for information concerning exemptions.) NOTE: Pending state legislation may increase the enrollment and the differential fee for the 1995 96 school year. The enrollment and differential fee will be refunded for classes dropped during the first two weeks of instruction. For the purpose of this section, the first week of instruction is the first week of the term, semester, or session. No refunds will be made after the second week of instruction. Instructional Materials Fees: Materials Fees will be charged to students in certain credit and non-credit courses when such materials are necessary to achieve the required objectives of a course and will be of continuing value to the student outside of the classroom. The instructional materials fee must be paid at the same time as enrollment and differential fees. These fees will be refunded for classes dropped during the first two weeks of instruction. No refunds will be made after the second week of instruction. Nonresident Tuition: Tuition will be charged to students who qualify as nonresidents including out-of-state students and foreign students. The tuition rate for the 1995 96 school year is $106 per semester unit, payable at the time of registration. Nonresidents are also required to pay the enrollment fee. (The
