The focus will be on active participation and both group and individual learning objectives. NOTE: No grade will be given for this class, student will receive credit or no credit only. (Credit course not applicable to the associate degree and certificate programs.) ESL 58R2 *ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE BEGINNING COMPOSITION This introductory writing course is designed for students whose native language is not English. Emphasis is placed on guided and controlled composition and includes extensive practice of sentence and paragraph completion and sentence combining. (AVC) ESL 60 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INTERMEDIATE CONVERSATION This course is designed to improve the communication skills of students at the intermediate level of English acquisition in both one-on-one and small group discussions. Emphasis is on developing self-expression and oral fluency in a variety of business/social/academic situations and by exploring the use of American idioms. NOTE: No grade will be given for this class, student will receive credit or no credit only. (AVC) ESL 66 *ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INTERMEDIATE ESL GRAMMAR This is an intermediate level grammar course for students with limited English proficiency to help prepare them for ENGL 50AR4, Basic Composition. The course involves intensive work in identifying elements of English grammar and demonstrating the ability to write mechanically sound English sentences. (AVC) ESL 68R2 *ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE- INTERMEDIATE COMPOSITION This course is designed for students whose native language is not English and is designed to teach and practice writing skills in a writer-based environment. Emphasis is on guidance through intervention in the writing process. (AVC) ESL 70 *ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE ADVANCED ORAL COMMUNICATION FOR ESL SPEAKERS communication skills of students at the advanced level of English language acquisition in expected and unexpected situations. Emphasis is placed on self- expression in problem-solving tasks, oral presentations, defense of decisions, attitudes and values, conversational strategies and conversation management techniques. (AVC) ESL 75 *ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR ESL STUDENTS This course is designed to bring ESL students to a near-native level of fluency and listening comprehension so that they may successfully compete with native speakers in SPCO 1. Students will prepare, present, and evaluate speeches, debates and oral interpretations.
