Additional information regarding residency requirements may be obtained from the Dean of Admissions. Parking Fee: A parking permit is required to park a vehicle anywhere on campus. A semester permit can be purchased for $15 or a permit can be purchased in combination with the Associated Student Organization card for a total of $20. Parking permits for the summer session are $7.50. In lieu of a semester permit students may purchase daily permits from vending machines located in each parking lot. These permits are 50 cents and are good only on the day they are purchased. Parking without a permit or with a permit improperly displayed may result in a $25 parking citation. Associated Student Fee: This fee can support student facilities and equipment, student activities, social events, tutoring, child care, theatre and music productions, etc. All students are covered under a student accident insurance policy (secondary coverage) while they are on campus or on a school sponsored trip. Students may wish to purchase a Associated Student Organization card each semester at a $10 fee. Student Health Services: Students taking one or more classes are entitled to free health services at the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, Emergency Department, 1600 West Avenue J. The health services provided to students are assessment, examination, simple treatment, writing of prescriptions and home-going instructions of minor, uncomplicated medical problems. These services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Appointments are not necessary, but students will be required to wait their turn for treatment. Housing Expenses: Antelope Valley College does not maintain on-campus housing. Costs in the community vary greatly with apartment rentals ranging from $200 to $500 monthly. Estimated College Expenses: The following are estimated costs of college attendance for a nine-month academic year. These figures include costs of tuition, books and supplies, food and housing, miscellaneous personal expenses, and transportation. The costs range from $4617 to $7374. Student living at home $4617 Student living away from home $7374 Add $106 per semester unit for tuition if you are not a California resident. Credit: The College cannot extend credit for expenses of admission. In the event that the student does become indebted to the College due to library fines, athletic expenses, student loans, or any other reason, Antelope Valley College will not release any copies of the students transcripts under the State Education Code Section 72237 Student privileges, diploma or transcripts may be withheld until the student pays a proper financial obligation due the District. State Education Code is available in the Antelope Valley College library. Refund of Nonresident Tuition Refund of the Nonresident Tuition Fee can be made only when the student negotiates a total withdrawal from the College. Refunds are not available for a reduction of program. The request for refund must be submitted in writing and accompanied by the registration receipt. Refund of the basic tuition fee will be made according to the following schedule: Regular Semesters 1st week of instruction 2nd week of instruction 3rd week of instruction 4th week of instruction 90% of the original fee paid 75% of the original fee paid 50% of the original fee paid 25% of the original fee paid 1 st week of instruction 90% of the original fee paid 2nd week of instruction 50% of the original fee paid 3rd week of instruction 25% of the original fee paid For the purpose of this section, the first week of instruction is the first week of the term, semester, or session. Summer Sessions No refunds shall be made for withdrawal unless the written request for refund is date-stamped by the register. The request must be postmarked before midnight of Friday of the third week following that in which instruction begins for regular semesters or academic quarters, or the second week following that in which the instruction begins for summer sessions and sessions less than academic quarters. Refunds shall not exceed the amount of tuition paid and will be processed only when accompanied by the receipt issued at the time of payment. Student Rights to Privacy of Educational Records Annual Notification: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (Section 438, Public Law 93-380), as amended, requires that educational institutions provide the student access to official education records and an opportunity for a hearing if such records are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise inappropriate. In addition, the College must obtain the written consent of the student before releasing information about the student with the exception of those persons or agencies specified in the Act. These rights extend to both present and former students of the College. The Act provides that the College may release certain types of directory information, unless the student submits in writing to the Dean of Admissions that certain or all such information not be released without the students consent. Directory information at Antelope Valley College includes the students name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation record in College sponsored activities and sports, weight and height (if an athletic team member), dates of attendance, degrees and awards, and the educational institution of most recent attendance. Education records will be made available for inspection and review during working hours to presently and formerly enrolled students within five days following the filing of a request form with[close] |
