128 Fire Technology Definition Fire Protection Services Industrial Safety Industrial Fire Brigade Plant Protection Security Guard This program is designed to prepare students to work as firefighters and to provide an opportunity for those now working in this field to upgrade their skills. The certified fire officer courses provide the educational requirements for certification. Those students with the necessary experience may apply for appropriate certifications through the State Fire Marshal system. Upon completion of the UFTC, professional firefighters should plan to enroll in appropriate programs at Regional Training Centers sponsored by the California Fire Academy System. Antelope Valley College will host these courses as the need arises. Fire Technology courses are offered in the evening to allow working persons easy access to instruction. Classes are updated by the local advisory group to maintain relevancy and meet changing industry needs. Distinctive Features Field trips, demonstrations, and other innovative methods of instruction are utilized in the program. Career Options Engineering Fire fighter Certificate Programs The following courses (18 units) are required for the Fire Fighter certificate: FT 1, Introduction to Fire Technology (3) FT 2, Fundamentals of Personal Fire FT 3, Fundamentals of Fire Protection (3) FT 4, Fundamentals of Fire Behavior and FT 5, Fundamentals of Fire Prevention (3) FT 6, Fire Protection Equipment and Safety (3) Control (3) Systems (3) The following courses (28 units) are required for the Level II certificate: Completion of Fire Fighter Certificate EMT 60, Emergency Medical FS 42, Rescue Practices (3) FS 47, Fire Apparatus and Equipment (3) (18 units) Technician 1 (4) Certified Fire Officer I Certificate The following courses (16 units) are required for the Fire Officer I Certification: FS 30A, Fire Command 1A Command Principles for Company Officers (2) FS 30B, Fire Command 1B Hazardous Materials for Company Officers (2) FS 31A, Fire Instructor 1A Instructional Techniques, Part 1 (2) FS 31B, Fire Instructor 1B Instructional Techniques, Part 2 (2) FS 32A, Fire Investigations 1A Fire Cause and Origin Determination (2) FS 33A, Fire Management 1 Management/Supervision for Company Officers (2) FS 34A, Fire Prevention 1A Fire Inspection Practices (2) FS 34B, Fire Prevention 1B Code Enforcement (2) Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree in Fire Technology may be satisfied by completing a minimum of 18 units from the certificate programs. Of these 18 units, at least 12 units must be from the required certificate courses rather than the supporting list of courses.
