(AVC) 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course is designed to prepare or enhance the first line supervisors ability to supervise subordinates. It introduces key management concepts and practices utilization in the California Fire Service. The course includes discussion about decision making, time management, leadership styles, personnel evaluation, and counseling guidelines. (AVC) 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course provides a broad, technical overview of fire prevention codes and ordinances, inspection practices and key hazards. Some areas of discussion include flammable and combustible liquids and gases, explosives, fireworks, extin- guishment systems and others. (AVC) 2 units 40 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course focuses on the codes, ordinances, and statutes that pertain to fire prevention practices in California. Some topics of discussion include: building and occupancy, evaluation procedures, inspection reports, and processing plans. (AVC) 3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of FT 1. Fire company role in life saving; development and organization of rescue companies; rescue equipment, training for rescue service; rescue practices and procedures. (AVC) 3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of FT 1, Fire apparatus design specifications and performance capabilities; effective utilization of apparatus in fire service emergencies. (AVC) 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. General and specific fire fighting strategies and tactics. Responsibilities of emergency personnel, appropriate strategies and tactics for: exposure and protection of high-rise, apartment house, single family, railroad, tank farm, transportation, commercial, occupancy, industrial explosions. Use of hazard identification systems, basics of building construction, mechanics of gases, resource development, extinguishing agents, fire ventilation practices, and theory. (AVC)[close] |
