136 Forestry Definition This program is designed to prepare the student for technical level work in public or private forestry operations including the lumber and recreation industries. Distinctive Features This program is offered on a limited basis because of the low employment conditions in the industry. Career Options Foresters Forestry Aides/Technicians Timbercutting and Logging Worker (Some of these careers require education beyond the two-year college level.) Certificate Program Certificate not applicable. Associate Degree An associate degree with a major in forestry is not available. (See Graduation/ Associate Degree Requirements.) Transfer A student planning to pursue a bachelor's degree in Forestry should check the appropriate catalogue(s) and consult with a counselor. Forestry Courses FOR 65 *INTRODUCTION TO FORESTRY 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. An introduction of forests and forestry including the history of forestry and the lumber industry. The student gains insight into the several branches of forestry, the uses of the forest and forest related employment opportunities. Instruction in basic forest instruments is also included. (UC, AVC) FOR 67 *INTRODUCTION TO FISH AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Introduction to Fish and Wildlife Management is a study of the laws and practices relating to modern wildlife management as well as current management practices. The course also covers the life histories of our more common wild animal species as well as endangered species and the causes of their being endangered. (AVC)
