Interior Design Courses IDH 1 *INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN 3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 1A. A lecture course designed to broaden the students knowledge of basic principles of decorating a home. Emphasis is placed on suiting the home to the needs and budget of the individual family to enrich family living. A practical introduction to the basic principles of interior design and an overview of the requirements for a comfortable, functioning and aesthetically pleasing environment. Main topics are design principles and elements, beginning space planning, lighting, color and surface treatments. Includes an evaluation of actual interior design problems and solutions, giving students an opportunity to learn how the basic principles of interior design are applied. Discussion of interior design as a profession. Note: First class will be an open meeting on the Interior Design Program. (CSU, AVC) IDH 2 *ADVANCED PROBLEMS IN INTERIOR DESIGN 3 units 5 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of IDH 1. Advisory: Eligibility for MATH A. A course in the application of the principles and elements of interior design. Skill development in planning and designing both residential and non-residential interiors, including custom design problems in the areas of space planning, remodeling and renovation of existing buildings, environmental lighting, custom furniture and cabinetry, wood finishes, window treatments, interior components, architectural elements, and human factors. Measuring, selecting materials, and cost estimating are included as well as drafting skills. (CSU, AVC) IDH 3 *FAMILY HOUSING 3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of IDH 1. Advisory: Eligibility for MATH A. A study of the relationship of the house to the needs of the family. The selection of a home, the principles of house construction. Field trips of interest to all involved in designing, building, buying, remodeling, or selling homes. The class includes the legal aspects of housing: buying vs. renting; zoning; titles and financing. (CSU, AVC) IDH 4R2 *INTERIOR DESIGN COMPUTER CONCEPTS Same course as ART 11R2. 3 units 6 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of IDH 1. Advisory: Eligibility for MATH A. Students are introduced to the use of the computer for interior design. The content of the class is presented through an intensive program of classroom lecture and hands -on experience in the use of the microcomputer for designing of interior space.
