Page 164 of Antelope Valley College 1995-1996 Catalog by Antelope Valley Community College Lancaster California162 Nursing LVNs and transfer students will be admitted for the fall program only. One set of official high school and college transcripts must be submitted with your application to the Allied Health Division, and another set should be on file in the college Student Services Center. Students must accept responsibility to contact high school(s) and college(s) previously attended for official transcripts. This should be done early in the application process. Transcripts from other colleges must be evaluated by an AVC counselor for equivalency. Contact the Student Services Center for an appointment. If not a high school graduate, an equivalency must be established by taking an appropriate test. An official copy of these results must be on file at the time of application. All courses to be considered in the evaluation process must be completed prior to submission of the application. Nursing courses, if previously taken, may be granted credit only for those subjects which are comparable to the requirements of the program in content, hours and units, A petition is required. Individuals may also challenge nursing courses contact the Allied Health Division for the challenge policy. Foreign transcripts (high school and college) must be evaluated for United States equivalency by a credentials evaluation service. A subject and grade breakdown is required. A list of these services can be obtained from the Dean of Admissions or the Secretary of Allied Health. Submit a copy of assessment scores eligibility for ENGL 1A and MATH C. Submission of assessment scores is not necessary if ENGL 50BR4 and MATH A have been completed with a minimum grade of C. Every item in this application procedure is extremely important, and an oversight of any item will prevent you from being admitted to the program. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission to the program. Selection Procedure Criteria which are used to establish selection into the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Antelope Valley College are: 1. Each applicant who meets the minimum requirements of the program becomes part of a pool of applicants and is selected by lottery. Applicants are identified by social security number and their numbers are drawn until classes are filled. NOTE: There is a waiting list for admission to the Nursing Program. 2. Applicants will be advised of acceptance/nonacceptance by letter in May for Fall admission and in December for Spring admission. NOTE: If not accepted, applicants must reapply. 3. The physical examination shall be taken after conditional acceptance into the program. The purpose of the examination is to ensure the absence of any communicable disease and to ensure that the candidate is able to perform the work to be required in the pro gram. Minimum Requirements for Generic Students 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Graduation from high school or an approved equivalent. Assessment scores eligibility for ENGL 1A and MATH C, or min-imum grade of C in appropriate college courses: ENGL 50BR4 and MATH A. Completion of ANAT 1 (college level), with a minimum grade of C. Completion of PHYSIO 1 (college level), with a minimum grade of C. NOTE: MICRO 1 must be completed before progression to the second semester. Satisfactory health status verified by a licensed physician or certified nurse practitioner, i.e., absence of any communicable disease or condition which would prevent active participation in all clinical experiences. Do not take the physical examination until a letter of acceptance is received. LVN to RN Career Options Vocational Nurses who are licensed in the State of California may be eligible for application to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. When selected for enrollment, the following three options are available to the LVN: A. B. C. A. The 30 Unit Option as specified by the Board of Registered Nursing (*non- degree). Advanced Placement entrance into the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program (degree or *non- degree). Entrance into the generic Associate Degree Nursing Program (degree or *non-degree). Persons completing nursing require- ments but not completing degree requirements of the college. 30 Unit Option The Nurse Practice Act requires objective counselling and individual evaluation of each LVN applicant to a nursing program. The additional education required should not exceed 30 semester units and LVNs who choose this option are not graduates of AVC, and do not receive an Associate Science Degree in Nursing. There is no assurance that the RN licensure for 30 unit option LVNs will be recognized outside of California. All college admission requirements are waived for 30 unit option students. Admission is on a space availability basis. Applications must be submitted according to the deadlines for Fall admission.
