A computer keyboarding course designed to familiarize student with the keyboard, computer terms, floppy disks, and the printer. Emphasis on speed and accuracy timings. Recommended as an entry-level class for non-typists who desire basic keyboarding skills. Course is not intended to develop vocational typing skills. (AVC) 1 unit 30 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and Abiliity to touch type at 25 GWAM. A refresher course for the student who wants to improve her/his typing skill to enter, reenter, or accept promotion in secretarial employment. (CSU, AVC) Same course as CA 42. 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 30 and Beginning Typing or the Ability to type 35 WAM and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. This course covers the concepts of word processing emphasizing Wordperfect from beginning through intermediate level. Topics covered include basic text editing and formatting, management of files and directories, block operations, printing, fonts, tabs, tables, merging, sorting, utilizing standard letter and report styles, and punctuation styles. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have used a word processing program to save, retrieve, edit, and print. An understanding of how PCs software, and peripherals work together is important. (CSU, AVC) 3 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of CA 42 or OT 72A and Intermediate Typing (40 WAM). Advisory: Completion of BUS 52A or BUS 52B or Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. This course is designed for students who wish to develop advanced skills in creating and editing business documents. Topics include documents with multi-column layouts, macros, style sheets, headers/ footers footnotes/endno tes, table of contents, indexes, and basic desktop publishing techniques. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have a thorough understanding of Wordperfects editing and formatting features, file and directory management, block operations, fonts, and tabs. They must be able to type at least 35 NWAM. Students also need good business English skills to originate business documents and proofread. (CSU, AVC) Same course as CA 43. 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 30 and Beginning Typing or the Ability to type 35 WAM and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2.
