Page 186 of Antelope Valley College 1995-1996 Catalog by Antelope Valley Community College Lancaster California184 Physical Education/Health Education/Intercollegiate Athletics PE 29B *TEAM SPORTS- ADVANCED BEGINNING WOMENS VOLLEYBALL 1 unit 3 hours weekly The course is designed to improve the students performance in basic skills and techniques pertaining to volleyball. An introduction to the basic strategy to compete at an advanced/beginning level of competition will be presented. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 29C *TEAM SPORTS- INTERMEDIATE WOMENS VOLLEYBALL 1 unit 3 hours weekly The course is designed to improve the skill and technique level of the students so that they could compete at the intermediate level. An emphasis will be placed upon strategy and teamwork commensurate with intercollegiate athletic competition. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 29D *TEAM SPORTS- ADVANCED WOMENS VOLLEYBALL 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advanced skills and techniques of volleyball will be taught in the course. An emphasis will be placed upon learning advanced strategy and teamwork. The student will learn the rules, theory, and philosophy of intercollegiate volleyball. (CSU, UC, AVC) Physical Education- Adaptive Physical Education Course PE 1R4 *ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1 unit 3 hours weekly The course is designed for the student who may be confined in type and amount of activity because of a physical limitation. The students program is individually tailored to meet the students need: the student develops the program in consultation with the guidance center and the students physician or therapist. (CSU, UC, AVC) Physical Education- Athletic Program Courses AVC is a member of the Foothill Conference. Competition is offered in baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, track, cross country, softball, and volleyball. PE 20A BEGINNING VARSITY BASEBALL 2 units 10 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Tryout required. This course is designed for the student- athlete who wishes to compete at the varsity intercollegiate level in baseball. The course will emphasize fundamental skills and playing techniques indigenous to the game of baseball. Physical conditioning is stressed, commensurate with competing at the intercollegiate level. The basic strategy, both offense and defense, will be introduced. The athlete will be instructed in the rules of the game and code of conduct. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 20B ADVANCED BEGINNING VARSITY BASEBALL 2 units 10 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Tryout required. This course is designed for the student- athlete who wishes to compete at the intercollegiate level in baseball. The course will emphasize advanced/ beginning baseball skills and techniques. The student-athlete must develop the level of physical conditioning to successfully compete intercollegiately. The student- athlete will be instructed in the rules of the game and be required to abide by the athletic departments code of conduct. Total team strategy and teamwork will be emphasized. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 20C INTERMEDIATE VARSITY BASEBALL 2 units 10 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Tryout required. The course is designed for the student- athlete who wishes to compete at the varsity intercollegiate level in baseball. The course will emphasize intermediate baseball skills and techniques. An intermediate level of competition requires the athlete to possess adequate physical conditioning. The course is designed to assist the athlete in acquiring the prerequisite conditioning. All phases of intermediate to advanced offensive and defensive strategy will be presented. The course will teach the athlete the playing rules and code of conduct. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 21A BEGINNING VARSITY BASKETBALL 1 unit 5 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Tryout required. This course is designed for the student- athlete who wishes to compete at the varsity intercollegiate level in basketball.
