Page 202 of Antelope Valley College 1995-1996 Catalog by Antelope Valley Community College Lancaster California200 Real Estate Definition Real property provides two-thirds of all the national wealth and contributes to a substantial amount of commerce in the United States. There are many professionals employed in fields both directly and indirectly related to real estate. Understanding each of their roles and their interrelationships is the key to success in real estate ventures. These programs are designed to provide students with preparation for careers in real estate, real estate investment and related fields. Coursework is available both in the day and in the evening, however, it is primarily an evening program. Distinctive Features An individual can meet all of the educational requirements of the Department of Real Estate for obtaining a real estate salesperson or real estate broker license by taking courses at Antelope Valley College. In addition, the College offers a course designed to assist individuals in preparing for the State examination. Career Options Appraiser Developer Escrow Officer Lending Officer Mortgage Banker Real Estate Broker Real Estate Salesperson Certificate Programs REAL ESTATE SALESPERSON AWARD AND BROKERS CERTIFICATE Students must have a C or better in all course work used to qualify for the Real Estate Salesperson Award or a certificate in Real Estate or Escrow. A maximum of 9 credit/no credit units will be accepted for the Real Estate Broker or Escrow certificate. A minimum of 9 units of certificate course work must be completed at Antelope Valley College. (Credit earned by examination will not be included in these 9 units.) The following three core courses are required for either the Salesperson Award or the Brokers Certificate. Core courses are generally to be taken prior to the electives or the certificate classes. Real Estate Core (9 units) BUS 50, Business Mathematics (3) BUS 52B, Business Communications (3) RE 50, Real Estate Principles (3) REAL ESTATE SALESPERSON AWARD (15 units) This program provides the basic skills necessary to enter the real estate field as a salesperson: Real Estate Core courses (9 units) plus: 6 elective units in Real Estate for a total of 15 units. REAL ESTATE BROKERS CERTIFICATE (30 units) This program provides advanced training in real estate for those planning to become California licensed real estate brokers and to upgrade the professional training of those in the real estate industry: Real Estate Core courses (9 units) plus: BUS 18A, Business Law (3) BUS 55, Bookkeeping (3) or BUS 1A, Principles of Accounting (4) RE 51, Real Estate Practices (3) RE 52, Real Estate Finance (3) RE 53, Legal Aspects of Real Estate (3) RE 54A, Real Estate Appraisal (3) Plus elective units in Real Estate for a total of 30 units. ESCROW CERTIFICATE (30 units) This program provides the basic skills necessary to succeed in the escrow profession. The following courses are required for the 30 unit certificate: Real Estate Core courses (9 units) plus: RE 51, Real Estate Practices (3) RE 52, Real Estate Finance (3) RE 53, Legal Aspects of Real Estate (3) RE 54A, Real Estate Appraisal (3) RE 56A, Escrow Principles* (3) RE 56B, Escrow Practices* (3) RE 56C, Escrow Problems* (3) (No electives are required.) Please plan your sequence of classes carefully because the individual escrow classes are offered on a rotational basis. Only one of the escrow classes is offered during any semester and therefore not offered again until the other two classes have been taught. Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree in Real Estate must be satisfied by completing one of the Real Estate Certificates in addition to the associate degree requirements. Transfer An option in Real Estate through a Business Administration major is available at California State University, Northridge. See transfer requirement under Business.
