Water Treatment: A water processing and control program of four classes designed for American Water Works Association and state wastewater certification test preparation. Other Courses: Technical level courses used in many specific technical education certificate and major programs. Distinctive Features These courses are intended to supplement various technological disciplines. Some of them fulfill requirements for certificates and the associate degree. Career Options See specific technology areas in this catalog such as: Aerospace Electronics Engineering Welding Certificate Program Certificate not applicable. Technology Courses TECH 41 TECHNICAL WRITING 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2, and MATH A. The course will present the characteristics of writing as required by persons occupied in engineering, technical and related activities. Included will be preparation of reports on testing, studies, analysis, etc. These reports to include charts, tables and illustrations as necessary. Reports will be prepared based on library study and research; abstracts of technical articles will be prepared. (AVC) TECH 50 *FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRICITY 4 units 6 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 3 hours lab) Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2, and MATH A. Basic concepts of electricity with emphasis on the fundamental laws of electricity and magnetism and the practical application of those laws. Experimental verification and these laws with laboratory practice to support the theory. The student will be provided a foundation in electricity for vocational areas; including electronics, electrical, auto, appliance repair, refrigeration and air conditioning. (AVC, 2+2) TECH 51R2 ELECTRICAL CODES AND ORDINANCES 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of TECH SO, TECH 52, TECH 53A, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Familiarization with Electrical Codes in use in California including technical requirements, governing bodies, enforce- ment. Emphasis on updating and interpretation. (AVC) TECH 52 *INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRICAL WIRING 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of TECH 50 and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Build a foundation of knowledge and skills needed to maintain or modify the electrical system in a residence. Close adherence to the National Electrical Code will be observed, resulting in safe wiring practices. The ability to secure permits and pass electrical inspection will be observed by the instructor. Basic formulas necessary to understand electrical theory and applications are presented as they are needed throughout the class. Class designed to teach the homeowner how to repair wiring problems in the home, and to do simple wiring jobs and installations. (AVC) TECH 53A *ELECTRICAL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of TECH 50, TECH 52, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Fundamentals of electrical wiring as used in residential homes.
