Welding 215 WELD IV *INERT GAS WELDING 2 units 8 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of WELD I, WELD II, and WELD III. WELD IV is designed for the student who seeks employment in the welding industry. Instruction is given in the basic techniques of safely welding steel and aluminum in the five American Welding Society defined joint configurations and in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions. The gas tungsten arc (TIG) and the gas metal arc (MIG) welding processes are used. Supplies will cost the student approx- imately $50. (AVC) WELD V-A *WELDING FOR CERTIFICATION L.A. CITY BUILDING CODE 2 units 64 hours total Advisory: Completion of WELD I, WELD II, WELD III and WELD IV. WELD V-A is designed for the student who seeks employment in the welding industry as a certified welder. Instruction will give the student information necessary for understanding the welding require- ments specified in the Los Angeles City Building Code. The student will also have the opportunity to develop manipulative welding skills which will help him/her pass the required welding performance test. Supplies will cost the student approx- imately $25 $50. (AVC) WELD V-B *WELDER CERTIFICATION PRACTICUM SMAW PROCESS 1 unit 48 hours total Prerequisite: Completion of WELD V-A. WELD V-B is designed for the student who seeks employment in the welding industry as a certified shielded metal arc welder. The student will develop his/her manipulative welding skills acquired in WELD V-A to a higher degree of proficiency using the shielded metal arc welding process. Supplies will cost the student approximately $25. (AVC) WELD V-C *WELDER CERTIFICATION PROCESS 1 unit 48 hours total Prerequisite: Completion of WELD V-A. WELD V-C is designed for the student who seeks employment in the welding industry as a certified flux cored arc welder. The student will develop his/her manipulative welding skills to the proficiency level needed to successfully pass the welder certification performance test required by the L.A. Department of Building and Safety in order to have semiautomatic process designation added to their certificate. Supplies will cost the student approximately $25. (AVC) PRACTICUM FCAW WELD V-D *WELDER CERTIFICATION PROCESSES 1 unit 48 hours total Prerequisite: Completion of WELD V-A. WELD V-D is designed for the student who seeks employment in the welding industry as a certified inert gas welder. The student will develop his/her manipulative welding skills to the proficiency level needed to successfully pass the welder certification performance test required by the L.A. City Department of Building and Safety for structural aluminum cer tification. Supplies will cost the student approximately $25. (AVC) PRACTICUM INERT GAS WELD 61 WELDING FUNDAMENTALS 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. WELD 61 is designed for the student who does not intend to become employed in the welding industry but desires a background in welding for general education purposes and/or as a supportive course for his/her studies such as automotive mechanics, auto body repair, air conditioning and refrigeration, artistic sculpturing, etc. Instruction is given in the basic techniques of safely arc and oxyacetylene welding, braze welding, and cutting on both light and heavy gauge ferrous metal. The student will also receive a brief introduction to inert gas welding, flux cored wire welding, submerged arc welding, and plasma arc cutting processes. Supplies will cost the student approximately $25. (AVC) WELD 70A *BLUEPRINT READING AND WELDING SYMBOLS 1.5 units 32 hours total Advisory: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in any WELD class; and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. WELD 70A is designed to give the student an introduction to the basic concepts of industrial drawing systems. Emphasis is placed upon the application and interpretation of welding symbols to drawings. (AVC) WELD 70B *WELDING LAYOUT 1.5 units 32 hours total Advisory: Completion of WELD 70A, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A; and welding experience. WELD 70B is designed to give the student an introduction into the techniques of applying shop mathematics for the purpose of fabricating welding structures. A study of standard material shapes, cutting procedures, joint design, and layout tools is included. (AVC)
