Computer Applications 30 Computer Information Science 40, English 1B, 2 Mathematics A, B, C, D, 5, 6, 7A, 11, 14, 15, 21 Philosophy 2, 10 Speech Communication 1, 2, 3, 4, 15, 42A, 43A, 48 40,45 AREA E Additional Breadth Courses in this area are designed to expand the acquisition and utilization of knowledge in general education andor self understanding. Courses must be taken from a discipline not previously selected. Select 3 units Three additional units from areas Guidance 1, 5 Health Education 1 Nutrition and Foods 1 AREA F Diversity Studies The primary focus of courses meeting the Diversity Studies requirement will deal, in depth, with non-dominant groups in the State of California and the United States. These groups of people are defined as African-American, Hispanic, Asian- Pacific Islander, Native American, and Women. Courses meeting the Diversity Studies requirement will deal with more than one group. Courses will deal with one non-dominant group in comparison to the dominant group or other non-dominant group(s). Issues of racism and sexism will be explicitly covered. Proficiency Requirements Proficiency requirements exist for the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathe- matics. Students must demonstrate competency in each of these areas in order to be eligible for the associate degree. A. READING Reading competency shall be satisfied by one of the following: 1. Score at eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 on the Reading Placement Test; 2. Complete ENGL 51AR2 with a minimum grade of C. B. WRITING Writing competency shall be satisfied by completion of ENGL 1A with a minimum grade of C. C. MATHEMATICS Mathematics competency shall be satisfied by one of the following: 1. Score at eligibility for MATH C on the Math Diagnostic Placement Test, or; 2. Completion of at least MATH A, with a minimum grade of C. 3. Major Requirements Major requirements may be satisfied by: A. Completing specific major require- ments listed in the Antelope Valley College catalog, or B. Completing a Letters, Arts and Sciences Major (18 units minimum distributed as follows): Social Sciences Select 6 units from Area B of the AVC General Education pattern or Area D of the CSU General Education pattern or Area 4 of the Inter- segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) . Humanities Fine Arts Select 6 units from Area C of the AVC General Education pattern or Area C of the CSU General Education pattern or Area 3 of the Inter- segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). Math/Science Select 6 units from Area A of the AVC General Education pattern or Area B of the CSU General Education pattern or Area 5 of the Inter- segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or any Computer Information Science courses or any associate degree applicable math courses. NOTE: Courses to satisfy the above requirements must be selected from either the Antelope Valley College General Education pattern or the CSU General Education pattern, or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). C. Completing a Natural Sciences Major (18 units minimum in physical and/or biological sciences). 4. Grade Point Average Requirement An overall grade point average of 2.0 C average) is required. 5. Residence Requirement A minimum of 12 units must be completed in residence at AVC. 6. Requirements for Two or More Associate Degrees To be eligible for two associate degrees a student must complete a minimum of 78 semester units, all graduation require- ments and the requirements for two majors. To be eligible for additional associate degrees a student must meet all graduation requirements and the require- ments for a specific major. For each associate degree the subject areas of study (major) must be in different academic disciplines. For example, it is not possible to receive an Associate Degree in General Business and a second Associate Degree in Banking.[close] |
