Campus Services 37 Referrals: Assistance with locating appropriate college and/or community services and agencies. Psychological Services Ext. 265 As an adjunct to academic and career counseling, Student Services provides personal counseling through Psycho- logical Services. A licensed mental health professional is available to visit with students concerning problems in living which are effecting their academic progress. These include, but are not limited to, parent-child conflicts, marital strife, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, rape, incest, child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, and other personal issues interfering with a students ability to achieve their potential. This service is available through the Counseling Center for a limited number of visits with referral to community agencies where necessary and appropriate. All personal information is maintained as strictly confidential. Scholarships Ext. 263 Antelope Valley College has a number of scholarships which are donated by individuals, clubs, and organizations in the community. Applicants are considered for all awards for which they qualify. The application deadline is early March. Scholarships are awarded primarily in the spring for the coming school year. Scholarships are available both for students continuing at Antelope Valley College and for students transferring to a four-year school. Other sources of financial assistance for students include: (1) Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and the Food Stamp Program, available through the County welfare offices; (2) Veterans benefits (apply at AVC); (3) Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for disabled students; and (4) the job placement service at Antelope Valley College. Transfer Center Ext. 361 The Antelope Valley College Transfer Center is designed to assist students who are interested in transferring to a four-year college and university. The center links Antelope Valley College with nine campuses of the University of California, the 20 campuses of the California State University and provides information on private colleges and universities throughout the nation. The Center provides services to anyone interested in transferring, with a special emphasis on students who have been historically underrepresented at four-year colleges and universities. Services offered by the Transfer Center include: Personalized conferences with rep- resentatives from four-year colleges/ universities. Admission, housing, and financial aid/scholarship information and assistance. CSU and UC application and fee waiver information. Library of college/university cat- alogues and programs. On-line articulation of AVC courses with four-year university curricula. UC and CSU admission application assistance works hops. Special admission consideration at CSU Northridge (Transfer Admission Agreement Program), CSU San Bernardino (Guaranteed Admission Contract Program), and UC Riverside. Monthly Transfer Center activities calendar. Campus tours. Video library. Financial aid workshop. The Transfer Center is located in the Student Services Center, and is open Monday from 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., and Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Veterans Services Ext. 225 Services for veterans are provided by personnel who staff the Veterans Service Office located in the Student Services Center. Antelope Valley College has been authorized to offer educational training for veterans and veterans orphans under laws which establish such benefits. A veteran must take 12 units of college work for full subsistence benefits, 9 units for three- fourths benefits, or 6 units for one-half benefits. The courses taken must contribute directly toward his/her approved educational objective. Deviation from this policy may result in the loss of benefits. Veterans may also lose their benefits for irregular attendance and/or poor academic performance. Credit for educational experience in the armed forces may be allowed after evaluation by the counseling department.
