Page 40 of Antelope Valley College 1995-1996 Catalog by Antelope Valley Community College Lancaster California38 Student Organizations and Activities The Student Development Program Ext. 266 The Student Development Program is designed to assist in developing citizenship and leadership. An attempt is made to provide activities of interest to each student. The program is administered by the Dean of Student Development. The student development program is financed by the funds received from membership in the Associated Student Organization and Bookstore revenue, and from revenue derived from approved Associated Student Organization activities. Upon payment of the membership fee of $10 at the time of registration, students receive a card which entitles them to benefits of the student development program. Associated Student Business Office All financial records of student organizations and the Associated Student Body are handled by the Associated Students Accounting Assistant. The Associated Student Business Office is located in the Office of Student Development in the Student Services Center. Associated Student Organization Fee/Refund Policy and Student Representation Fee The Associated Students fee is in support of the activities and facilities sponsored by the Associated Students. The membership fee also includes free admission to all college sponsored athletic contests. The Associated Student Organization membership fee can help provide for child care, tutoring, typing service, social activities, athletics, college publications, music and drama pro- ductions, and games located on the cafeteria stage. Refund Policy: The Associated Student Organization fee will be refunded in full to those students who totally withdraw within the first two weeks of instruction and request a refund in writing. Request for refund must be accompanied by the students Associated Student Organization card, the receipt and drop slip. The Student Representation Fee of $1 will provide for the support of governmental affairs representatives who may be stating their positions and viewpoints regarding community colleges and related issues before city, county and district government and before offices and agencies of the state and federal government. You may, for religious, political, financial, or moral reasons, request a refund of the Student Representation Fee by completing the Student Representation Waiver Form which is available in the Office of Student Development during posted hours. College Committees Students are invited to participate in college administration and faculty committees. Active participation on a college committee is an opportunity in applied self-government open to all students attending Antelope Valley College. Eligibility of Associated Student Organization (ASO) Officers The entire Executive Board must meet the following requirements: 1. Be an active member of the ASO. 2. Maintain and complete eight units of course work at Antelope Valley College per semester. 3. Must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA at Antelope Valley College. 4. Must have completed a minimum of 16 units of college level course work at the time he/she takes office. All other officers are exempt from Item 4. Each Executive Board officer shall hold only one campus-wide elected office at a time. Campus-wide organizations to include any and all clubs that are open to campus-wide membership. No ASO officer shall hold the same office for more than two years. Students on disciplinary probation are ineligible to run for or hold any office provided for in the Constitution of the Antelope Valley College ASO. Student Government Student government, including the financing of student activities, is in the hands of a group of elected and appointed officials known as the Associated Student Organization. The Executive Board consists of five elected student officers. The Executive Council will be divided into two separate categories: The Executive Board and House of Com- missioners. The Executive Council is advised by the Dean of Student Development. The Executive Board members are elected in the Spring and the House of Commissioners in the Fall. Student Organizations All registered students are eligible for membership in the clubs and organizations of their choice. Students are encouraged to form additional organizations to meet special needs or interests. All new organizations are subject to approval of the Inter-Club Council, the Executive Council of the Associated Student Organization, and the Board of Trustees. Student Publications The Antelope Valley College Bulletin is published Friday of each week during the regular semester by the Office of Student Development and contains a calendar of events scheduled for the coming week as well as pertinent announcements from the faculty, administration, and students An Activities Calendar of scheduled school events is maintained by the Office of Student Development. All authorized activities must be registered in this office. The Calendar includes dates of special events, meetings of campus organizations, other college activities, and other events taking place on the College campus.[close] |
