Administration of Justice 53 This course is designed to give the student an understanding of the field of evidence from a practical standpoint. It will provide a workable and understandable discourse on the entire field of evidence with particular emphasis on areas of interest and importance to working police officers in their regular duties. Due to the fact that the rules seem to change continually, and because some of these changes virtually affect the officer in his/her job, it behooves the officer to keep abreast. In this course those mistakes made by officers in the collection and preservation of evidence that sometimes lead to adverse case law will be examined. It will give insight into the rules of evidence as encountered by those who serve as members of a jury. (CSU, AVC) A study of the juvenile justice system, its organization, the functions and juris- diction of law enforcement agencies, processing and detention of juveniles, court procedures, disposition, juvenile diversion and legal rights and the responsibilities of juveniles. (CSU, AVC) This course explores the past, the present condition and the potential future of the persistently problem-ridden jails and prisons that are society's last resort in trying to control lawbreakers. A study of history, philosophy and current cor- rectional procedures, including custody, security, and supervision. (CSU, AVC) Study of principles of fire investigation for purposes of determining cause and origin. Special attention is given to criminal laws of arson, search warrants, use of crime lab techniques and testifying in court as an expert. (CSU, AVC) This course covers Traffic Law Enforcement regulation control with emphasis on the fundamentals of traffic investigation and the California Vehicle Code. (AVC) The role of the school peace officer, laws, community relations, reportable offenses, dealing with violence and gangs, parking and traffic, facility protection and disasters and emergencies. Course meets Penal Code 832.2 training requirements. (AVC) This course is designed to instruct the student of criminal justice and the working law enforcement officer in the elements of traffic accident investigation. (AVC) A course in the concepts of parole and probation examined from a historical, theoretical, and practical viewpoint, how these types of supervision overlap. The political and economic ramifications for the juvenile delinquent and Rights of Due Process will be discussed and the special problems these offenders pose; the issue of public safety and parole. (CSU, AVC) Provides combined related vocational classroom instruction with on-the-job employment experiences directly related to a student's occupational objective. Students meet with instructor by arrangement to discuss experiences and or problems arising on the job. (CSU, AVC)
