Distinctive Features The program may be modified to satisfy individual needs. Career Options Aircraft Dispatcher Aircraft Operator Airframe and Powerplant Repair Airport Management (General Aviation and Airline Related Operator) Structural Assembler (Some of these careers may require education beyond the two-year college level.) Certificate Program Certificate not applicable. Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree in Aeronautics/Aerospace may be satisfied by completing 18 units from the list of courses below. (See Graduation/ Associate Degree Requirements.) AERO 40, Introduction to Aerospace (3) AERO 44, Introduction to Air Traffic AERO 45, Basic Ground School (3) AERO 46, Weather and Navigation (3) AERO 47, Instrument Ground School (3) CIS 40, Introduction to Computer GEOG 1, Physical Geography (3) OT 42R4, Beginning Typewriting (3) OT 42R4, Intermediate Typewriting (3) SPCO 1, Introduction to Public Control (3) Information Science (3) Speaking (3) Students who have an FAA pilots rating may request credit for AERO 49A, 49B, or 49C as appropriate if they are Aeronautics/ Aerospace majors. Aeronautics/Aerospace Courses AERO 40 *INTRODUCTION TO AEROSPACE 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. This course will trace the history of aviation including a look at the future. The student will consider historical events and their relation to present aviation aspects. Will discuss the military development, the commercial growth, and the private aircraft future. Will learn to recognize major types of aircraft and their characteristics. (CSU, AVC) AERO 44 *INTRODUCTION TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AERO 40 and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. History and development of Federal Aviation Administration in general. Includes fundamentals of air traffic control and application to the three air traffic options within FAA. Fundamentals and function of air traffic control from the viewpoint of both pilot and controller, including the duties and responsibilities of the flight service, terminal, and enroute control specialist, are considered. (AVC) AERO 45 *BASIC GROUND SCHOOL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50A, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course is designed for aeronautics and aerospace majors and covers the basic principles of flight that are essential to the private pilot. (AVC) AERO 46 *WEATHER AND NAVIGATION 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Possession of private pilots license; Completion of MATH A, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. Basic principles of meteorology and of aerial navigation. Collection, use, and dissemination of weather data. Includes navigation aids and methods currently in use on Federal Airways including charts, publications, instruments, various radio aids, landing systems, etc. (AVC)[close] |
