Completion of this program is one of the first steps towards obtaining a landscape contractors license. Distinctive Features Students enrolled in the Park and Landscape Management certificate program receive hands-on experience in all phases of landscape construction. The program also includes computer-aided instruction. Certificate Programs The following courses (13 units) are required for the Level I certificate: AG 70, Environmental Gardening (2) AG 75, Soils and Plant Nutrition (3) LNDSC 73A, Plant Identification I (3) LNDSC 77, Nursery Practices (2) MATH 50, Arithmetic (3) The following courses (29 units) are required for the Level II certificate: Level I Certificate (13) AG 74, Plant Pest Control (3) BOT 1, Introduction to Botany (4) LNDSC 62, Landscape and Turf LNDSC 64, Landscape Irrigation (3) LNDSC 72A, Basic Landscape Design (2) LNDSC 80, Plant and Landscape Equipment (2) Maintenance (2) The following courses (42 units) are required for the Level III certificate: Level II Certificate (29) LNDSC 63, Landscape Construction (3) LNDSC 72B, Advanced Landscape LNDSC 73B, Plant Identification II (3) LNDSC 81, Turf And Landscape LNDSC 82, Landscape Management (2) Design (3) Maintenance (2) The following courses (57 units) are required for the Level IV certificate: Level III Certificate (42) MGT 58, Small Business Management (3) MGT 71, Elements of Supervision (3) TECH 41, Technical Writing (3) Electives (6) Electives: AG 62, Tree Farm Management (2) AG 77, Fruit and Nut Production (3) LNDSC 78, Interior Plantscape (2) LNDSC 99R, Work Experience (1-4) Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree may be satisfied by completing a minimum of 18 units from the required certificate courses. (See Graduation/ Associate Degree Requirements.) Transfer A bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture is available at Calif. State Polytechnic Univ., Pomona and Calif. Polytechnic State Univ., San Luis Obispo. Check the schools catalogs and consult with a counselor regarding transfer requirements. A bachelors degree in Ornamental Horticulture is available from Calif. State Polytechnic Univ., Pomona and Calif. Polytechnic State Univ., San Luis Obispo, and Fresno State. Agriculture Courses AG 62 *TREE FARM MANAGEMENT 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Students will develop knowledge of tree farming activities including how to install and raise trees in a woodlot or Christmas tree farm situation. Skills such as pruning, fertilizing, and pest control will be taught, as well as types of trees suited for Antelope Valley, and other essential management skills. (AVC) AG 70 *ENVIRONMENTAL GARDENING 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2. Organic and inorganic methods of plant growth. Includes equipment and materials, soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation, pest control, plant structure, hydroponics and classification.
