Laboratories and specimen collections required. (AVC) AG 75 *SOILS AND PLANT NUTRITION Interpretation of soil maps, plant nutrient requirements, fertilizers, their uses, value, and application will be studied. Practical experience in testing soils and plants. A term project involving knowledge learned will be required. (UC, AVC) AG 77 *FRUIT AND NUT PRODUCTION Production practices common to fruit and nut crops of California, especially those of Antelope Valley. Planting and planning the orchard, as well as pruning, irrigation and cultural practices will be covered. (UC, AVC) Park and Landscape Management Courses LNDSC 62 LANDSCAPE AND TURF EQUIPMENT Study of the various pieces of equipment used in landscape or home gardening, such as lawn mowers, edgers, roto-tillers, spray machines, etc. Includes tune-up, mainte- nance, operation, and safety, primarily for turf equipment. (CSU, AVC, 2+2) LNDSC 63 *LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION Construction and repair of projects using materials and methods used in landscape construction including the use of concrete, masonry, wood and fencing. Discussions, as well as demonstrated manual skills, will cover various areas such as planters, waterfalls, patios, walks, etc. (CSU, AVC) LNDSC 64 *LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION Design, installation, and repair of residential and commercial landscape irrigation systems including low intensity irrigation systems. (CSU, AVC) LNDSC 72A *BASIC LANDSCAPE DESIGN This introductory course starts with the history of landscaping and then introduces the students to the basic problems of landscape design including land, soil, water, climate, people, and space. This course also covers how plants grow, as well as their landscape uses. The design of small specific areas of the home is used as an introduction to landscape design. (CSU, UC, AVC) LNDSC 72B *ADVANCED LANDSCAPE DESIGN Advisory: Completion of LNDSC 72A, and Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course will involve completion of the landscape management certificate program. Theories of design, cost estimating, measuring and recording data, creating a total landscape plan, interviews with homeowners will be covered in this course. Students will be using computer assisted drafting. (CSU, AVC) LNDSC 73A *PLANT Study of common ornamental and native plants used in California landscapes. Includes the size, shape, growth habits and the landscape value of each plant. Approximately 280 trees, shrubs, ground covers, and annuals will be covered. A leaf collection will be required. (CSU, UC, AVC)
