Construction Technology 115 Definition The program is designed for construction workers to upgrade their skills and knowledge through appropriate training. Nelson Terrence Orr Siamak Tousi Program Description A variety of evening and day classes related to the building construction industry are regularly offered. Distinctive Features Representatives from the building trades are guest lecturers in many of the courses, and on field trips. Career Options Builder Contractor Road Construction Worker Certificate Program The following courses (25 units) are required for the certificate: CNST TEC 40, Introduction to Construction Technology (3) CNSTTEC61A, 61 B, Architectural Drafting (12) CNST TEC 62, Construction Cost Estimating (3) CNST TEC 63, Uniform Building Codes and Plan Review (3) ENGR 1A, Plane Surveying (4) Recommended supporting courses: BUS 1A, Principles of Accounting (4) BUS lB, Principles of Accounting (4) CNSTTEC61C/ENGR41, Computer Aided Design (3) COMM 15 (SPCO 15), Introduction to Argumentation (3) ECON 1A, Principles of Macroeconomics (3) MGT51, Communication in Management (3) MGT 71, Elements of Supervision (3) PHY SCI 1, Physical Science (3) TECH 50, Fundamentals of Electricity (4) TECH 51R2, Electrical Codes and Ordinances (3) TECH 52, Introduction to Electrical Wiring (2) TECH 99R, Work Experience (1-4) (Courses in parentheses are former course numbers.) NOTE: Substitutions may be made for certain courses that may not be offered in the two-year period. Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree in Construction Technology may be satisfied by completing a minimum of 18 units from the certificate program. Of these 18 units, at least 12 units must be from the required list of courses rather than the supporting list of courses. (See Graduation/Associate Degree Requirements.) Transfer Not a transfer major. CNST TEC 40 *INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Introduction to the basic problems of construction including the following: construction terminology, construction methods, construction equipment, laying out and planning construction, estimating, bidding, inspection codes. (AVC) CNST TEC 61A *ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING 6 units 8 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ENGR 19, and Eligibility for MATH A. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50AR4 and ENGL 51AR2. The grammar and composition of building construction includes the study of architectural graphic standards, specifications, and local and state codes. (AVC) CNST TEC 61B *ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING 6 units 8 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CNST TEC 61A. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50AR4, ENGL 51AR2 and MATH A, and some construction background. Practical application of local and state codes, time saving standards, architectural graphic standards, ASA standards, and to become more competent in building construction. (AVC)
