(CSU, AVC) ELECT 15 *ELECTRONIC DRAFTING 3 units 6 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. A drafting course intended particularly for electronic students. The following subjects will be covered: lettering (freehand and with templates) use of instruments and special templates, orthographic projection, p i c t o r i a l d r a w i n g , d i m e n s i o n i n g , schematic wiring diagrams, connection d r a w i n g s , p r i n t e d c i r c u i t b o a r d s , electronic symbols industrial standards, component and assembly drawings, and microelectronic drawings. (AVC) ELECT 40A *ELECTRONICS MATHEMATICS 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Signed numbers, scientific notation, multiplication, division, squares, square root, elements of algebra, radicals, trigonometry, plane vectors as applied to electronics. (AVC) ELECT 40B *ELECTRONICS MATHEMATICS 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 40A. A continuation of ELECT 40A with emphasis on straight line graphs, simultaneous equations, quadratic equations and determinants as they apply to electronic circuits. Utilization of logarithms to solve exponential equations, for charging and discharging capacitors and inductors. The course concludes with number systems for computers and Boolean Algebra. (AVC) ELECT 60A *ELECTRONIC FUNDAMENTALS 4 units 6 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 40A or concurrent enrollment. Basic concepts of electricity with emphasis on the fundamental laws of electricity and magnetism, theory and applications of direct and alternating current and their effects upon circuit elements including resistance, inductance, capacitance, impedance, phase relationships, distribution systems. Experimental verification of these relationships, use of tools and instruments, and good shop practice are included in the laboratory portion of the course. (AVC, 2+2) ELECT 60B *ELECTRONIC FUNDAMENTALS 4 units 6 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 40A, ELECT 60A or ELECT 62A. A course in the theory and operation of electronic devices with emphasis on the semiconductor diode, junction transistor, field-effect transistor, SCR, vacuum tube and other electronic devices. Experimental verification of these relationships and the use of electronic instruments will be accomplished in the laboratory portion of the course. (AVC) ELECT 62A *ELECTRONIC FUNDAMENTALS AND CIRCUIT ANALYSIS 6 units 8 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 40A or concurrent enrollment. To develop the student facility and understanding of basic electricity, magnetism and passive circuit analysis. The student will acquire skills in using test instruments while in verifying the concepts lectures. (AVC, 2+2) the laboratory learned in the ELECT 62B *ELECTRONIC FUNDAMENTALS AND CIRCUIT ANALYSIS 6 units 8 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 40A, ELECT 60A or ELECT 62A. A continuation of ELECT 62A with emphasis on the theory and operation of electronic devices includ ing the semiconductor diode, junction transistor and field-effect transistor. Emphasis will be placed on the graphical analysis of the devices mentioned above. The course will conclude with the study of SCRs and TRICS. Experimental verification of these relationships and the use of electronic instruments will be accomplished in the lab. (AVC) ELECT 63A *ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS AND DEVICES I 4 units 6 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 60B or ELECT 62B. A study of the numerical analysis of the bipolar, field-effect transistor amplifiers in the most commonly used configuration, i.e., common emitter, common base, and common collector (emitter follower). Emphasis will be placed on interpretation of the device specification sheet, conversion of h-Parameters and h-Parameters dependence on Q-Point translation. Plus the use of the amplifiers and cascade amplifiers, and oscillators. (AVC) ELECT 63B *ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS AND DEVICES II 4 units 6 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ELECT 63A. A continuation of ELECT 63A with emphasis on linear integrated circuits. Both ICs and transistors will be used to design feedback and oscillator circuits. The course concludes with communication circuits. (AVC)
