Topics include: Preparing course outlines, establishing levels of instructions, constructing behavioral objectives and lesson plans, instructional aid development, fundamentals of testing and measurements, tests planning, evaluation techniques and tools. Activities include student teaching demonstrations. (AVC) FS 32A *FIRE INVESTIGATIONS 1A-FIRE CAUSE AND ORIGIN DETERMINATION 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course provides the participants with an introduction and basic overview of fire scene investigation. The focus of this course is to provide information on fire scene indicators and to introduce fire personnel to concepts of investigation. (AVC) FS 33A *FIRE MANAGEMENT l-MANAGEMENT/ SUPERVISION FOR COMPANY OFFICERS 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course is designed to prepare or enhance the first line supervisors ability to supervise subordinates. It introduces key management concepts and practices utilization in the California Fire Service. The course includes discussion about decision making, time management, leadership styles, personnel evaluation, and counseling guidelines. (AVC) FS 34A *FIRE PREVENTION 1A-FIRE INSPECTION PRACTICES 2 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course provides a broad, technical overview of fire prevention codes and ordinances, inspection practices and key hazards. Some areas of discussion include flammable and combustible liquids and gases, explosives, fireworks, extinguishment systems and others. (AVC) FS 34B *FIRE PREVENTION 1B-CODE ENFORCEMENT 2 units 40 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course focuses on the codes, ordinances, and statutes that pertain to fire prevention practices in California. Some topics of discussion include: building and occupancy, evaluation procedures, inspection reports, and processing plans. (AVC) FS 42 *RESCUE PRACTICES 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of FT 1. Fire company role in life saving; development and organization of rescue companies; rescue equipment, training for rescue service; rescue practices and procedures. (AVC) FS 47 *FIRE APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of FT 1. Fire apparatus design specifications and performance capabilities; effective utilization of apparatus in fire service emergencies. (AVC) FS 50 *FIRE STRATEGY AND TACTICS 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. General and specific fire fighting strategies and tactics. Responsibilities of emergency personnel, appropriate strategies and tactics for: exposure and protection of high-rise, apartment house, single family, railroad, tank farm, transportation, commercial, occupancy, industrial explosions.
