Nursing 177 Definition Nursing is an art and science incorporating knowledge from behavioral, biological and physical sciences. An Associate Degree Nursing program, a Vocational Nursing program, and a Nurse Aide-Home Health Aide program are offered. Career Options Licensed Vocational Nurse Nurse Aide-Home Health Aide Registered Nurse Certificate Program Vocational Nursing The three semester Vocational Nursing curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for the California State Board of Vocational Nurse Examination. Students need to be admitted to the Nursing Program in order to enroll in the nursing classes. Written information is available in the Allied Health Division. Students must maintain a minimum grade of C in each required course to progress and graduate. A minimum grade of C in clinical practical and theory is mandatory. It contains supervised clinical experience in hospitals. Students may be assigned evening experience in the clinical facilities, The program is accredited by the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Graduates receive a certificate of achievement from the College and are recommended as qualified for the State Board Examination. The Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners may deny licensure to individuals who have been convicted of a felony. Any individual seeking admission to the nursing program who has such a conviction is advised to contact the Board to ascertain their status prior to seeking admission. Antelope Valley College Assessment Scores eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2, and MATH A or minimum grade of C in appropriate college courses: ENGL 50AR4, ENGL 51AR2, and MATH 50. Graduation from high school or an approved equivalent. A d m i s s i o n t o t h e p r o g r a m i s conditional until a satisfactory health examination is received. Students s h o u l d n o t t a k e t h e p h y s i c a l examination until so directed. Submission of application to the Allied Health Division on appropriate forms. Check brochure for deadlines. All courses to be considered in the evaluation should be completed prior to submission of the application. Credit for previous nursing education will be evaluated on an individual basis. Application Procedure It is important to complete the following: l l l l l Applications for admission to the Vocational Nursing Program are available in the Allied Health Division. Refer to the nursing brochure (available in the Allied Health Division) for specific application deadlines. One set of official high school and college transcripts must be submitted with your application to the Allied Health Division, and another set should be on file in the college Student Services Center. Students must accept responsibility to contact high school(s) and college(s) previously attended for official transcripts. This should be done early in the application process. Foreign transcripts (high school and college) must be evaluated for United States equivalency by a credentials evaluation service. A subject and grade breakdown is required. A list of these services can be obtained from the Dean of Admissions or the Secretary of Allied Health. Every item in this application procedure is extremely important, and an oversight of any item will prevent you from being admitted to the program. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission to the program. Screening of All Applicants: Criteria which are used to establish priority for selection into the Vocational Nursing program at Antelope Valley College follow: 1. Each applicant who meets the minimum requirements of the program becomes part of a pool of applicants and is selected by lottery. Applicants are identified by social security number and their numbers are drawn until the class is filled.
