Photography and Photographic Imaging 195 Definition The Photography and Graphic Arts programs are directed toward individual artistic development with an emphasis on developing the students ability to create independent works. White, Dean Ext. 334 Administrative Secretary: Misti Mallane Ext. 637 Faculty: Robert McMahan Ext. 294 Adjunct Faculty: Lee Bergthold Joe Lingray Lisa Karlstein Program Description The program develops competencies in black and white photography with an ability to print both black and white and color film from 35mm and graphic arts cameras. It introduces the student to the multiple elements of computerp h o t o g r a p h i c i m a g i n g u s i n g t h e Macintosh microcomputer. The program also allows the student to explore line photography, halftone photography, and three color separation techniques. Distinctive Features Photography and graphics courses are directed toward vocational and artistic application of the acquired skills within each of the designated areas. Career Options Journalistic Photographer Portrait Photographer Screenprinter Technical Photographic Certificate Program The following courses (30 units) are required for the certificate: ART 3ABR2, Drawing (3) or ENGR 19, Basic Engineering Drawing (3) ART 47R4, Special Studies in Art (in area of specialization) (3) or CG 46, Portfolios and Job Search Planning (3) CG 3R2 (ART 9ABR2), Computer Imaging (3) CG 9ABCDR2 (ART 36ABCDR2), Photography (6) CG 13ABR2 (ART 16ABR2), Digital- Photographic Imaging (3) CG 15R2 (ART 10ABR2), Graphic Communication I (3) or CG 33R2 (ART 17ABR2), Computer Newspaper/Magazine Productions (3) CG 30R2 (ART 30ABR2), Intermediate Chemical-Digital Photographic Imaging (3) or CG 11ABR2 (ART 37ABR2), Color Photography (3) Electives (6 units) from any of the following. Electives: ART 1B, History of Art (3) or ART 2, Understanding the Visual Arts (3) ART 4ABR2, Advanced Drawing (3) BUS 41, Introduction to Business (3) CG lR2/ART 46R2, Design and Color (3) CG 30R2 (ART 30ABR2), Intermediate Chemical-Digital Photographic Imaging (3) ENGL l0A, Creative Writing: Fiction (3) ENGR 19, Basic Engineering Drawing (3) JOUR 23R3 (JOUR 8R3)/COMM 23R3, Newswriting and Reporting (3) JOUR 25 (JOUR 10)/COMM 25, Photojournalism (1) MKTG 54, Introduction to Advertising (3) OT 42R4, Beginning Typewriting (3) (Courses in parentheses are former course numbers.) Associate Degree The major requirements for an associate degree in Photography maybe satisfied by completing a minimum of 18 units from the certificate program. Of these 18 units, at least 12 must be from the required certificate courses rather than the lists of elective courses. (See Graduation/ Associate Degree Requirements.) Transfer A Photography concentration is available through an Art major at CSU, Northridge. A student planning to pursue a bachelors degree should complete the following courses prior to transfer. Art Major-CSU, Northridge ART 1A and lB, History of Art (6) ART 3ABR2, Drawing (3) or ART 4ABR2, Advanced Drawing (3) ART 46R2/CG 1R2, Design and Color(3) Art electives (6-10 units) should be selected for purpose of satisfying prerequisites for upper division courses or for sampling potential areas for specialization. NOTE: This information is based on the 1992 94 articulation agreement. NOTE: Requirements may vary at other institutions. Check the appropriate catalog(s) and consult a counselor. CG 3R2 *COMPUTER IMAGING I (formerly ART 9ABR2, Computer Graphics) 3 units 6 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and basic computer skills. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. Introduction to the theory, basic principles and techniques of computer generated Hi- Resolution graphics, video ditherizing, image transfer, and Fonts generation. (CSU, AVC, 2+2)
