Associate Degrees Business Computer Information Science The requirements for an associate degree in Business Computer Information Science may be satisfied by completing the Business Computer Information Science certificate program in addition to the associate degree requirements. Computer Programming The requirements for an associate degree in Computer Programming may be satisfied by completing the Computer Programming certificate program in a d d i t i o n t o t h e a s s o c i a t e d e g r e e requirements. Computer Applications courses CA 1 *COMPUTER CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS IN BUSINESS 4 units 5 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of BUS 1A, and Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 1A or satisfactory completion of ENGL 1A, and Eligibility for MATH A. Instructional materials fee required for t h i s c o u r s e a n d m u s t b e p a i d a t r e g i s t r a t i o n . This course introduces the uses of c o m p u t e r s i n b u s i n e s s including microcomputer applications. Topics covered include hardware, software, management information systems, the Internet and the Web. and the integration of computers into business applications. Laboratory work includes learning how to use an operating system, a word processor. a spreadsheet, a database manager, presentation manager. the Internet and the Web, and a geographical information system. Software used in the class includes Windows, Word, Excel, OLE, Access, and PowerPoint. Computer concepts, systems, and components will be studied. BEFORE ENROLLING students should be able to complete an accounting worksheet, prepare a balance sheet and income statement from a worksheet, and compute depreciation. Students should also have knowledge of the following accounting concepts: receivables, payables, inventory, payroll, and the accounting cycle. Instructional materials fee required for t h i s c o u r s e a n d m u s t b e p a i d a t r e g i s t r a t i o n . This course is designed to teach the firsttime computer user the features of a microcomputer, how a microcomputer operates, and how to s e l e c t a microcomputer to best fit individual needs. Students will learn how to use the major features of popular software applications, including word processors (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), database managers (MS Access) and the Internet (MS Internet Explorer). The course includes hands-on operation of a microcomputer. No prior computer experience is needed.
