The major requirements are listed below. (See Graduation/Associate Degree Requirements.) Computer Graphics Major The Computer Graphics major is designed to give art students an in-depth understanding of the various processes involved in the use of computer and related technologies for creation of graphic and photographic images. A minimum of 35.5 units are needed. Thirty-two and one-half units are required core courses. Three or 3.5 units are breadth requirements to reflect additional background in the area of study. Core Courses (32.5 units) ART 1 A, History of Art (3) ART 1B, History of Art (3) ART 3ABR2, Drawing (3) ART 8ABR2, Illustration (3) CG 1R2/ART 46R2, CG 1LR2/ART 46LR2, Design and Color/Lab (3.5) CG 3R2, 3LR2, Computer Imaging I/ Lab (3.5) CG 5R2, 5LR2, Computer Illustration/ Lab (3.5) CG 9ABR2, Photography (3) CG 13R2, 13LR2, Digital- Photographic Imaging/Lab (3.5) CG 15R2, 15LR2, Graphic Communication I/Lab (3.5) Support Courses (3 or 3.5 units) Three or 3.5 units from any of the following courses: CG 11ABR2, Color Photography (3) CG 17R2, 17LR2, Multimedia Development I/Lab (3.5) CG 21R2, 21LR2, Computer Imaging II/ Lab (3.5) CG 30R2, 30LR2, Intermediate Chemical-Digital Photographic Imaging/Lab (3.5) CG 31R2, 31LR2, Graphic Communications II/Lab (3.5) CG 37R2, 37LR2, Electronic Presentations/Lab (3.5) Transfer Computer Graphics courses of study are available through an Art major at CSU, Northridge. A student planning to pursue a bachelors degree should complete the following courses prior to transfer. Art Major-CSU, Northridge ART 3ABR2, Drawing (3) or ART 4ABR2, Advanced Drawing (3) CG 1R2/ART 46R2, CG 1LR2/ART 46LR2, Design and Color/Lab (3.5) Select two courses from: Art Electives (6-10 units) ART 1A, 1B, History of Art (6) or ART 112 (CSUN) NOTE: This information is based on the 1996 97 articulation agreement. Computer Graphics Courses ART 11R2 *INTERIOR DESIGN COMPUTER CONCEPTS Same course as IDH 4R2. 3 units 6 hours, weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of IDH 1. Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in ART 11LR2. Advisory: Eligibility for MATH A. Students are introduced to the use of the computer for interior design. The content of the class is presented through an intensive program of classroom lecture and hands-on experience in the use of the microcomputer for designing of interior space. This is in accordance with the state guidelines for the interior program. Students may repeat this course once for credit. (CSU, AVC) ART 11LR2 *ART 11: INSTRUCTIONAL LAB Same course as IDH 4LR2. .5 unit 31.5 hours total Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in ART 11R2. Instructional materials fee required for t h i s c o u r s e a n d m u s t b e p a i d a t registration. A laboratory in support of computer graphic courses designed to allow the student to advance their computer skills and specific software knowledge as related to the class in which the student is concurrently enrolled. Attendance is based on positive attendance and is required for completion of the course. (CSU, AVC) CG lR2 *DESIGN AND COLOR Same course as ART 46R2. 3 units 6 hours weekly Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in CG 1LR2. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4 and ENGL 51BR2. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. A study of the principles and practices of the use of design and color in the creation of 2-dimensional representational and non-representational art forms. Students are given projects with specific points of focus (e.g., line, shape, value, and color). The critique of these projects forms a basis for students aesthetic growth and development. Lectures demonstrate practical examples of the use of color and design in works of art from the beginning of art history to contemporary trends. Computers will be used to demonstrate the uses of various elements of design and color. (CSU, UC, AVC)[close] |
