192 Nursing for admission to the Nursing Program, and students are placed on the waiting list in the order that they are drawn in the lottery. Students are notified in writing on which waiting list they have been placed. 2. Applicants will be advised of acceptance or nonacceptance by letter in June. NOTE: Students who receive a nonacceptance letter will need to reapply. 3. The physical examination shall be taken after conditional acceptance into the program. The purpose of the examination is to ensure the absence of any communicable disease and to ensure that the candidate is able to perform the work which will be required in the program. Minimum Requirements for Generic Students 1. Graduation from high school or an approved equivalent. 2. Assessment scores eligibility for ENGL 1A and MATH C, or minimum grade of C in appropriate college courses: ENGL 50BR4 and MATH A. 3. Completion of ANAT 1 (collegelevel), with a minimum grade of C. 4. Completion of PHYSIO 1 (college level), with a minimum grade of C. NOTE: MICRO 1 and ENGL 1A must be completed before progression to the second semester. 5. Satisfactory health status verified by a licensed physician or certified nurse practitioner, i.e., absence of any communicable disease or condition which would prevent active participation in all clinical experiences. Do not take the physical examination until a letter of acceptance is received. LVN to RN Career Options Vocational Nurses who are licensed in the State of California may be eligible for application to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. When selected for enrollment, the following three options are available to the LVN: A. The 30 Unit Option as specified by the Board of Registered Nursing (*nondegree). B. Advanced Placement entrance into the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program (degree or *nondegree). C. Entrance into the generic Associate Degree Nursing Program (degree or *non-degree). * Individuals completing nursing requirements but not completing degree requirements of the college. A. 30 Unit Option The Nurse Practice Act requires objective counselling and individual evaluation of each LVN applicant to a nursing program. The additional education required should not exceed 30 semester units and LVNs who choose this option are not graduates of AVC, and do not receive an Associate Science Degree in Nursing. There is no assurance that the RN licensure for 30 Unit Option LVNs will be recognized outside of California. All college admission requirements are waived for 30 Unit Option students. Admission is on a space availability basis. Applications must be submitted according to the deadlines for Fall admission. Refer to the nursing brochure for details. 30 Unit Option-Required Curriculum MICRO 1, General Microbiology (5) PHYSIO 1, General Human Physiology (4) NOTE: MICRO 1 and PHYSIO 1 are prerequisites to NS 3A and NS 3C. NS 3A, Developmental and Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites Related to Mental Health of the Adolescent and Adult (3.5) NS 3C, Developmental and Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites in Acute Illness (3.5) NS 4, Leadership and Management Skills in the Care of Adults with Health Deviation Self-Care Requisites (14) A minimum grade of "C is required in all courses. NS 3, Nursing Transition, is strongly recommended for LVNs. B. Advanced Placement 1. An LVN admitted into the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program can elect to receive 16 units of credit for his/her LVN coursework. The 16 units of credit will be posted on the transcript after successful completion of NS 3A, 3B, and 3C. The 16 units of credit for the LVN coursework is consistent with the catalog listing for credit granted for NS 1,2A, and 2B in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. 2. Selection will be based on a lottery system and on space availability. Application Procedure Refer to the nursing brochure for details. Advanced Placement Minimum Entrance Requirements 1. Graduation from high school or an approved equivalent. 2. Eligibility for MATH C on the AVC assessment test, or minimum grade of C in appropriate college course: MATH A. 3. Completion of ENGL 1A with a minimum grade of C. 4. Completion of college level ANAT 1 with a minimum grade of C. 5. Completion of college level PHYSIO 1 with a minimum grade of C. 6. Completion of college level MICRO 1 with a minimum grade of C. 7. Completion of *NS 3 with a minimum grade of C. * NS 3 is offered in the summer session. Applicants may enroll in this class after receiving acceptance letter to the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
