Physical Education/Health Education/Intercollegiate Athletics 209 higher performance level in the basic techniques of golf. It differs from Beginning Golf in that actual competition and advanced levels of strategy are taught and worked on. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 7R4 *ADVANCED TRACK TECHNIQUES (formerly PE 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D) 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advanced skills and techniques of track and field will be taught in the course. An emphasis will be placed upon learning advanced strategy and teamwork. The student will learn the rules, theory, and philosophy of intercollegiate track and field. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 8R4 *BEGINNING MODERN DANCE 1 unit 3 hours weekly An introduction to the fundamentals of creative expression and the development of body strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and rhythm through dance technique. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 8R4 *INTERMEDIATE MODERN DANCE 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of previous dance classes and knowledge of basic dance techniques. A thorough study of dance techniques developed by outstanding dancers in the modern dance field. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 8R4 *MODERN DANCE COMPOSITION 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advisory: At least two years dance experience. A class for creating and choreographing dance compositions with the ultimate purpose of performing these compositions before an audience. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 9R4 *BEGINNING SWIMMING An introduction to basic water skills and 1 unit the swim skills of the front crawl, back 3 hours weekly crawl, and elementary backstroke. The student will be eligible to qualify for the Red Cross Levels 2 and 3 swim card. This course is open for nonswimmers. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 9R4 *INTERMEDIATE SWIMMING 1 unit 3 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Complete a 100 yard swim test or have completed Beginning Swimming. The learning of all the basic swim stroke techniques for the purpose of developing increased ease, endurance, and versatility in the water. Students will be eligible to qualify for the Red Cross Level 4 swim card. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 9R4 *ADVANCED SWIMMING-LIFEGUARD TRAINING 1 unit 3 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Successfully complete lifeguard pretest skills of: a) 500 yard continuous swim, b) one minute brick tread, c) 20 second 25 yard sprint, d) 10 second deep end brick retrieve, e) 60 second 50 yard brick retrieve. In addition student must perform a 100 yard stroke of each the freestyle; breast stroke; elementary backstroke and sidestroke at level 7 proficiency. Course Corequisite: Current certification in Red Cross Standard First Aid and Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; or concurrent enrollment. Lifeguard training focuses on training individuals to emphasize personal safety. How to prevent accidents and how to protect yourself in emergencies: to learn the knowledge of rescue skills and the ability to perform them. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 9R4 *FITNESS SWIMMING Advisory: Student should be able to s u c c e s s f u l l y c o m p l e t e a 1 0 0 y a r d 1 unit continuous swim. 3 hours weekly Student will be taught to set up a swimming program to build physical fitness. The student will be instructed how to improve the swim strokes he/she possess. The basis of the program will be aerobic conditioning. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 10R4 *ADVANCED FOOTBALL TECHNIQUES (formerly PE 10A, 10B, 10C, 10D) 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advanced skills and techniques of football will be taught in the course. An emphasis will be placed upon learning advanced strategy and teamwork. The student will learn the rules, theory, and philosophy of intercollegiate football. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 11R4 *ADVANCED WOMENS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TECHNIQUES (formerly PE 11A, 11B, 11C, 11D) 1 unit 3 hours weekly Advanced skills and techniques of womens fast-pitch softball will be taught in the course. An emphasis will be placed upon learning advanced strategy and teamwork. The student will learn the rules, theory, and philosophy of intercollegiate womens fastpitch softball. (CSU, UC, AVC) PE 12R4 *BEGINNING TENNIS 1 unit 3 hours weekly The fundamentals of tennis resulting in a progressive advance to a reasonably valid performance. (CSU, UC, AVC)
