Board of Governors Grant (BOGG) - This grant pays the mandatory college enrollment fee required by the State of California. This is a grant program and does not require repayment. This grant can be processed quickly and students can register immediately for classes. To be eligible for the BOGG, a student must be a California resident and have already qualified for financial aid such as the Pell Grant, Cal Grant, or other need based aid. Additional criteria include the following: students or their families must be receiving AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children), SSI (Supplemental Security Income), or General Assistance/General Relief, or the student must meet the income limit based on family size. For example, a family of four must have had an adjusted gross income for last year of less than $17,000. Students should come to the Financial Aid Office in the month prior to registration to apply for this grant. 2. Cal Grant A This is available to students planning to attend four-year colleges. It will be held in reserve while attending a community college. The award can vary from $594 to $4,452 per academic year when the student transfers to a four-year school. 3. Cal Grant B This is available to low income, disadvantaged students and can be used at a two or four-year institution. The average award (based on full-time enrollment) is $1,196 per academic year for living expenses. Tuition/fee award at four- year institutions will range from $594 to $4,452 per academic year. 4. Cal Grant C This is for vocational students only. This grant can only be used at a two-year school or vocational institution. The average award at AVC is $449 per academic year. The student applies for the Cal Grant Program prior to March 2nd, preceding the next academic year they will enroll. Information Technology Services 722-6535 The purpose of Information Technology Services (ITS) is to bring a coordinated, centralized management to the areas of campus-wide networking, data processing, telephone services, video conferencing, computer hardware and software acquisition, and control of related licenses and contracts. ITS is to make technology available to faculty, staff and students to enhance and support the educational objectives of AVC and the State of California. Services provided by ITS include: l campus-wide networking and Internet access, l data processing and administrative computing, l computer repair, l campus-wide software licensing, l campus video conferencing, l telephone system management, . planning for effective technology deployment at AVC. Instructional Multimedia Center (IMC) 722-6451 The Instructional Multimedia Center (IMC), located within the library building, contains equipment and media for student, staff, and faculty use. Students are encouraged to use the IMC as a resource for term paper research, to reinforce and improve study skills or for personal growth. The IMC houses media from all disciplines ranging from How to Master Algebra to Driving Miss Daisy -all the right tools to help students study smart and get better grades. Job Resource Center 722-6358 The Job Resource Center (JRC) is a resource and information center available to current students and alumni. The JRC assists students to become fully prepared to search for employment opportunities that are in line with their educational goals and career objectives. Students are encouraged to apply to employment opportunities, work experience programs or internships that will provide the skills and experience needed to secure permanent employment once they have graduated. Learning Center 722-6458 The Learning Centers integrated programs are designed to provide enrolled students academic support for academic and vocational classes as well as assistance with the development of basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. An equally important mission of all Learning Center programs is to provide students a variety of collegiate level study strategies which assist them in developing effective study plans and provide them timely assistance in preparing for and taking exams. The Learning Centers integrated programs provide assistance through the ESL Conversation Groups, Math Lab, Reading Lab, Study Strategies Program, Tutoring Program, Writing Center, and DSS High Tech Center.
