This class is the first in the sequence and deals primarily with the engine lower end/ short block and lubrication system. (AVC) AUTO 66B *AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE REBUILDING (UPPER END) 4 units 8 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AUTO 50A, and Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and MATH 50. A course in the fundamentals of automotive engine repair and rebuilding primarily with cylinder head, cooling system, valve train, and related parts. Included is laboratory experience in modern techniques of engine diagnosis, overhaul, maintenance, and rebuilding. (AVC) AUTO 66C *AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE REBUILDING (ADVANCED) 4 units 8 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of AUTO 60A or A UTO 66A and AUTO 66B. A course in the repair and rebuilding of automotive engines. The student will already have completed AUTO 66A and 66B or 60A. The student will complete projects at his/her own rate. (AVC) AUTO 68 *AUTOMOTIVE CHASSIS AND BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS 4 units 8 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AUTO 50A, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. A course in the fundamentals of automotive electrical systems. Includes laboratory experiences in accessory circuitry, dash instruments and related control circuits. Emphasis is placed on the correct use of the ohmmeter, voltmeter, ammeter, digital storage oscilloscope, test light, jumper wire, wiring diagrams and modern techniques of electrical diagnosis. (AVC) AUTO 70A *AUTOMOTIVE IGNITION SYSTEMS 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AUTO 50A. AUTO 50B and AUTO 68, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. Course in automotive electrical tune-up, includes fundamentals of electricity, electronics, service, repair and adjustment of components dealing with various automotive starting and ignition systems. (AVC) AUTO 70B *AUTOMOTIVE STARTING AND CHARGING SYSTEMS 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AUTO 50A, AUTO 50B and AUTO 68, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course is to familiarize the student with the principles of automotive starting and charging systems on an advanced level. Operation of the different electrical components, diagnosis and service are stressed. (AVC) AUTO 70C *CALIFORNIA CLEAN AIR CAR COURSE 8 units 140 hours total Advisory: Completion of AUTO 50A, AUTO 62A, AUTO 71A and AUTO 71B, and Eligibility for ENGL 50BR4, ENGL 51BR2 and MATH A. This course is designed to prepare students to take the Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog Check (BAR) licensing exam. The prerequisite to taking this course for licensing purpose is dependent upon current Bureau of Automotive Repair guidelines. Other interested parties are allowed to take the course but will not be certified as eligible to take the licensing examination given by the BAR. (AVC) AUTO 70D *ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS- GENERAL MOTORS SYSTEMS 4 units 72 hours total Advisory: B a c k g r o u n d i n e n g i n e performance and electrical systems, and Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and MATH 50. A course in microprocessor (computer) controlled ignition and fuel systems. Topics covered include microprocessor operation, sensors, activators, closed loop operation, system testing, and repair. Class covers GM and some import systems. (AVC) AUTO 70E *ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS-FORD/ CHRYSLER SYSTEMS 4 units 72 hours total Advisory: B a c k g r o u n d i n e n g i n e performance and electrical systems, and Eligibility for ENGL 51BR2 and MATH 50.
