116 Child and Family Education for MATH 100, and on-the-job experience in preschool, day care, or before-and-after school age care. This course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth study of the administration of programs for young children. Areas covered will include: personnel management, proposal writing, advocacy, Titles V and XXII guidelines, current research in field of early childhood education, professional involvement, updating of regulatory laws and licensing. This course provides three of the six units in supervision and administration required to direct publicly funded child care centers and after-school care. (CSU, AVC) CFE 111 *SUPERVISING ADULTS IN CHILD CARE SETTINGS (formerly CFE 9) 2 units 2 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CFE 101, CFE 102, and CFE 103. This class explores methods and principles of supervising adults in early childhood education settings. Emphasis will be on the role of experienced teachers and administrators acting as mentors to new teachers while addressing other classroom needs. This course is required for Master Teacher, Director, and Site Supervisor categories of the Child Development Permit, and to apply to become a mentor teacher in the California Mentor Teacher Project. (CSU, AVC) CFE 113 *INCLUSIVE CLASSROOMS FOR NURTURING EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 101. This course will introduce the student to methods and principles of evaluating inclusive educational settings. It is designed to assist teachers, caregivers and directors to better understand and implement programs for inclusion of c h i l d r e n i n t h e l e a s t r e s t r i c t i v e environment so that diversity in all forms can be enhanced and included in the classroom. (CSU, AVC) CFE 114 *MUSIC AND MOVEMENT EDUCATION FOR THE YOUNG CHILD (formerly CFE 14) 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 099. This is a class for teaching professionals working with young children. Students will analyze the principles of music and movement education for all childrens developing abilities. Design, assessment and implementation of activities based on developmentally appropriate practice will be explored in all areas of the classroom curriculum. (CSU, AVC) CFE 115 *GUIDING CHILDREN-EFFECTIVE CARE GIVING (formerly CFE 49) 3 units 3 hours weekly A course designed for all care givers (day care providers, parents, foster parents, and stepparents) of children interested in guiding children to express their highest potentials. Care givers can gain a new level of self control by learning new attitudes and practical skills. These acquired skills will create a positive atmosphere which encourages children to become responsible, independent, and cooperative. The course is applicable to several CFE certificate programs. (CSU, AVC) CFE 120 *DAY CARE PROVIDER: INFANT/ TODDLER PARENTING STRATEGIES (formerly CFE 80B) 3 units 84 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101, and Eligibility for MA. TH 100. This course will address the needs of day care providers and parents to learn accepted child care and child-rearing theory and techniques as it relates to physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Appropriate strategies for parenting the infant and toddler will be modeled and applied in a hands-on setting. Students may bring children ages 6 weeks to 3 years. This course satisfies the California State education requirement for infant care teachers. (AVC) CFE 121 *DAY CARE PROVIDER: INFANT/ TODDLER PARENTING STRATEGIES (formerly CFE 80C) 4 units 112 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101, and Eligibility for MATH 100. This course will address the needs of day care providers and parents to learn accepted child care and child-rearing theory and techniques as it relates to physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth.
