118 Child and Family Education CFE 166 *FOSTERING THE BATTERED AND ABUSED CHILD (formerly CFE 52ER2) 1 unit 18 hours total This course is designed to provide specific knowledge and techniques involved in the most challenging aspects of fostering children. Issues addressed will be pertinent to foster parenting battered and abused children. (AVC) (R1) CFE 167 *FOSTERING THE ACTING-OUT AND EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILD (formerly CFE 52FR2) 1 unit 18 hours total A minicourse in the Foster Parent Program, designed to provide specific knowledge and techniques, and suggestions involved in the most challenging aspects of fostering children. Issues addressed will be pertinent to foster parenting emotionally disturbed children. (AVC) (R1) CFE 168 *FOSTER PARENTING THE MEDICALLY FRAGILE CHILD (formerly CFE 52HR2) 1 unit 16 hours total This course is designed to provide the initial training required by the foster care licensing agencies to provide care for children with special medical needs. Topics will include an overview of medical foster care, community resources and services available (CA Childrens Services, Regional Center, WIC, Hospice, Headstart, Organizational Support Groups for SIDS, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Spina Bifida, AIDS, Asthma, etc.), working with the medical placement unit and special skills, health issues and concerns for medical care providers. (AVC) (R1) CFE 170 *MODEL APPROACHES TO PARTNERSHIPS IN PARENTING (formerly CFE 52G) 1.5 units 30 hours total This course was designed by the Child Welfare Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, to create a better understanding of the issues in foster care and to develop a partnership between foster parents and social workers. The model was designed for the community colleges. Funding is through an agreement with Los Angeles Department of Childrens Services. (AVC) CFE 173 *INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM FOR FOSTER PARENTS: EMPLOYABILITY (formerly CFE 52IR2) 1 unit 17.5 hours total A minicourse based upon an adaptation of the PUSH Eastern Michigan University and MAPP curriculum. It is designed to help foster parents and concerned others to understand the various attitudes and barriers youths face in getting a job and making realistic job choices. The main focus of the course is the role of the foster parents in helping youths develop employability skills. It is one of a series of four, each of which deals with one aspect of the tasks youths face in becoming emancipated. (AVC) (R1) CFE 174 *INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM FOR FOSTER PARENTS: LEAVING HOME AGAIN (formerly CFE 52JR2) 1 unit 17.5 hours total A minicourse based upon an adaptation of the Eastern Michigan University and MAPP curriculum. It is designed to help foster parents and concerned others to understand their role in preparing youth in out-of-home care for independent living. This course will assist by providing foster parents and others with techniques and skills for helping youth to leave home. It is one in a series of four, each of which deals with one aspect of the tasks youth face in becoming emancipated. (AVC) (R1) CFE 175 *INDEPENDENT LIVING PROJECT FOR FOSTER YOUTH: EMPLOYABILITY (formerly CFE 52IYR2) 1 unit 17.5 hours total A minicourse based upon the adaptation of the Eastern Michigan University GOALS curriculum for youth training. It is designed to help youth develop those skills needed to go out and live successfully. This is one of a series of four which is designed to address one aspect of the tasks that youths face in becoming emancipated. (AVC) (R1) CFE 176 *INDEPENDENT LIVING PROJECT FOR FOSTER YOUTH: LEAVING HOME AGAIN (formerly CFE 52JYR2) 1 unit 17.5 hours total This minicourse is based on the EMU curriculum for youth training. It is designed to help youth develop those skills needed to go out and live successfully.
