168 English as a Second Language ESL 084 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE- INTERMEDIATE COMPOSITION (formerly ESL 68R2) 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ESL 082. Advisory: Completion of ESL 054 or concurrent enrollment. This course is designed for students whose native language is not English and is designed to teach and practice writing skills in a writer-based environment. Emphasis is on guidance through and intervention in the writing process. NOTE: No grade will be given for this class, student will receive credit or no credit only. (Credit course not applicable to the associate degree and certificate programs.) (R1) ESL 086 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE- ADVANCED COMPOSITION (formerly ESL 78R2) 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of ESL 084 or A VC ESL Assessment. An advanced composition course designed for students whose first language is not English and to prepare them for matriculation into mainstream composition courses. NOTE: No grade will be given for this class, student will receive credit or no credit only. (Credit course not applicable to the associate degree and certificate programs.) (R1)
