Prerequisite Completion If a course is listed as a prerequisite for another course, that prerequisite course must be completed with a satisfactory grade in order to enroll in the next course. According to the California Education Code [55200 (d)] a satisfactory grade is a grade of A," B, C, or CR . ATTENTION New Course Numbers Effective with the 1999-2000 academic year, AVC has adopted a new course numbering system. Former course numbers appear in parentheses after the new course numbers. A guide can be found on Pages 58-68 that provides an explanation of the new course numbering system along with an alphabetical list for converting former course numbers to new numbers. Allied Health Course AH 100 *RECOGNITION OF CARDIAC AND RESPIRATORY EMERGENCIES (formerly AH 70D) .5 unit 9 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: Enrolled in Nursing Program or EMT course. E m p h a s i s o n b a s i c a n a t o m y a n d physiology of the heart. Recognition of signs and symptoms of a myocardial infarction, airway obstruction, sudden death, and the institution of basic lifesupport measures. This course is available only to students enrolled in the Nursing Program or EMT course. (AVC) Emergmey Medical Technology Course EMT 101 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN 1 (formerly EMT 60) 4 units 6 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 3 hours lab) Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 100, READ 099 and MATH 050. Theory and techniques of emergency medical services to be performed by an Emergency Medical Technician 1. Course is approved by the Los Angeles County EMS Agency. Upon successful completion of this course, a certificate of completion will be awarded by AVC. Students are required to take a county examination in order to receive State EMT- 1 certification. Includes experience in an emergency room of an acute care facility, and accompanying qualified emergency ambulance services. Must be 18 years of age. Students will be required to wear a uniform for the emergency room and ambulance experiences. Students will be required to enroll in a CPR-C course in order to complete the course requirements. Details will be given to students by the classroom instructor. (AVC) Medical Office Assisting Courses MOA 101 BEGINNING MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (formerly MOA 40A) 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 099. Basic terms commonly used in the medical field with emphasis on prefixes, suffixes and root words. An introduction to anatomy and physiology will be used as an applied learning tool. (AVC) MOA 102 ADVANCED MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (formerly MOA 40D) 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of MOA 101. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 099. Anatomical and physiological terminology applicable to the human endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, genitourinary, sensory, musculoskeletal, nervous and integumentary systems is presented.
