Aeronautical and Aviation Technology 57 reports (METAR), pilot reports (PREPS), terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAF) and forecasts (FA). (AVC) AERO 230 *AIRCRAFT AIRFRAME I 15 units 25 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. The content of this course is to inform and train students to become familiar with the techniques and operations involved with aircraft wood structures, finishes, covering, sheet metal and non-metallic structures, welding, assembly and rigging, aircraft inspection and aircraft fuel systems. The student will meet qualifying standards for the FAA comprehensive testing leading to an Airframe Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 231 *AIRCRAFT AIRFRAME II 15 units 25 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 230 (FAA minimum requirements). Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. The content of this course is to inform and train students to become familiar with the techniques and operations involved with aircraft instruments, communication and navigation, position and warning, cabin atmosphere, ice and rain, fire protection, a i r c r a f t e l e c t r i c a l , h y d r a u l i c a n d pneumatic, and landing gear systems. The student will meet qualifying standards for the FAA comprehensive testing leading to an Airframe Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 240 *AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT I 15 units 25 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for READ 099, ENGL 099, and MATH 100. Provides instruction related to aircraft reciprocating and turbine engines. Topics include inspection, fuel systems, unducted fans and auxiliary power units. Intended for students who wish to attain FAA Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 241 *AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT II 15 units 25 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 240 (FAA minimum requirements). Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Provides instruction related to aircraft reciprocating and turbine engines. Topics include lubrication systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, electrical and instruments systems, fire systems and propellers. The student will meet qualifying standards for the FAA comprehensive testing leading to a Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 280 AIRCRAFT GENERAL MECHANIC 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility to take FAA written mechanics examination. Preparation for the FAA Aircraft Airframe or Powerplant Mechanics written general examination. Subject matter includes technical material relative to current practice and relevant FAA regulations. (AVC) AERO 281 AIRCRAFT AIRFRAME MECHANIC 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility to take FAA written mechanics examination. Preparation for the FAA Aircraft Airframe Structures and Airframe Systems Mechanics written examination. Subject matter includes technical material relative to current practice and relevant FAA regulations. (AVC) AERO 282 AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT MECHANIC 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility to take FAA written mechanics examination. Preparation for the FAA Aircraft Powerplant Theory and Powerplant Systems Mechanic written examination. Subject matter includes technical material relating to current practice and relevant FAA regulations. (AVC) AERO 199 *WORK EXPERIENCE 1-4 units hours vary Prerequisite: Students must be registered in at least 7 units (including the Work Experience units) and approval of instructor supervising work experience subject area. Prior to enrolling, students must attend a scheduled orientation. The Work Experience program provides supervised employment extending classroom-based learning to an on-the-job learning situation. Students meet with instructor by arrangement to discuss learning objectives, along with experiences and/or problems arising on the job. (CSU, AVC) (R3)
