Clothing and Textiles 113 Concentration in Textile Apparel and Fashion Merchandising CHEM 101, 101L, Introductory Chemistry/Lab CT 101, Principles of Clothing Selection CT 102, Textiles CT 110, Clothing Construction I: Fundamentals NF 100, Nutrition Elective choices may include: BUS 201, Business Law 5 3 3 3.5 3 3 NOTE: This information is based on the 1999 2000 articulation agreement. NOTE: Requirements may vary at other institutions. Check the appropriate catalog(s) and consult a counselor. Prerequisite Completion If a course is listed as a prerequisite for another course, that prerequisite course must be completed with a satisfactory grade in order to enroll in the next course. According to the California Education Code [55200 (d)] a satisfactory grade is a grade of A," B, C, or CR . Clothing Courses CT 050 *SEWING BASICS 3.5 units 5 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. This is a basic skill level course for students without previous sewing experience. It is designed to prepare the student for a c o l l e g e l e v e l b e g i n n i n g c l o t h i n g construction class. Students will study basic safety in the classroom; they will cover machine maintenance and sewing techniques. They will construct three simple garments and develop a basic notebook. (Credit course not applicable to the associate degree and certificate programs.) (R1) CT 101 *PRINCIPLES OF CLOTHING SELECTION 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101. The study of clothing selection based on an understanding of the various psychological, historical, sociological, and economic aspects. Emphasis placed on design and color in clothing as related to individuals and to wardrobe planning. A study of natural and man-made textiles and their use and care as related to clothing choice. Also included are general aids to self-improvement, consumer aids and protection. (CSU, AVC) CT 102 *TEXTILES 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101. The study of the characteristics of plant, animal, and synthetic fibers and their use in fabrics. The course includes information for the homemaker concerning textile weaves and finishes, and the selection and care of fabrics for garments and household use. This course is suggested for prospective homemakers, home economics majors, and those interested in the interior decorating and clothing industries. (CSU, UC, AVC) CT 110 *CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION I: FUNDAMENTALS 3.5 units 5 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) Advisory: Completion of CT 050, and Eligibility for READ 097 and MATH 050. Introductory clothing construction course. Construction of four simple garments. Emphasizes use of commercial patterns and cutting to fit methods. Required of home economics majors. (CSU, AVC) (R1) CT 112 *CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION II: NEW TRENDS 3.5 units 5 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) Course Prerequisite: Completion of CT 110. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 097 and MATH050. This course provides instruction in the selection and construction of accessory items such as purses, belts, lingerie, mens and womens slacks, bathing suits, and miscellaneous garments made of specialty fabrics such as knits, leather, and fake fur. (CSU, AVC) (R3) CT 120 *INTRODUCTION TO SERGERS 3.5 units 5 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) Advisory: Eligibility for READ 097 and MATH050. An introductory course covering the operation and maintenance of an overlock/ serger machine. Students will learn basic threading for the three thread, four thread and five thread overlock. Maintenance and needle types for different operations will be covered. Tension setting for a variety of thread weights and types will be included. Students will be required to construct five basic serged garments during the class. They will also be required to develop a technique notebook covering the different uses for the variety of serger operations. (CSU, AVC) (R1) CT 141 *TAILORING 3.5 units 5 hours weekly (3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab) Course Prerequisite: Completion of CT 110. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 097 and MATH050.
