62 Aeronautical and Aviation Technology Aircraft Fabrication and Assembly Courses AERO 100 *BASIC BLUEPRINT INTERPRETATION (formerly Basic Aircraft Blueprint Reading) 4 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Classroom lecture and hands-on practice reading and interpreting actual blueprints. Students will be required to interpret basic geometric definitions, basic lines and drafting methods, drawing numbering systems, types of drawings, engineering parts lists, and coordinating reference systems. (AVC) AERO 102 *BASIC STRUCTURES (formerly Basic Aircraft Structures) 3 units 5 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 100 or concurrent enrollment. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Designed to give students the necessary skills to perform basic aerospace structures assembly and repair. Consists of classroom lecture and hands-on practice drilling holes in aluminum and installing flush and protruding head rivets. Students will be required to interpret engineering drawings and layout hole patterns, drill holes and install rivets. (AVC) AERO 106 *INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITES 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AERO 100 or concurrent enrollment, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Designed to give students the necessary skills to perform basic composite lay-up and fabrication. Consists of classroom lecture and hands-on practice in fiberglass lay-up and composite vacuum bagging techniques. Students may be required to interpret engineering drawings. (AVC) AERO 110 *ADVANCED STRUCTURES 3 units 5 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 102. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Designed to give students the necessary skills to perform journeyman aerospace structures assembly and repair. Consists of classroom lecture and hands-on practice drilling holes in composites, aluminum, steel and titanium. Will understand cold working of holes and installation of special fasteners. Will understand the purpose of aircraft sealants and prepare surfaces for, and apply sealants. Students will perform material fabrication using sheet metal shop equipment. As a final project, the student will be required to assemble a final project using all the skills acquired using an engineering drawing. (AVC) AERO 112 *INTERMEDIATE COMPOSITES 3 units 3 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 106. Advisory: Completion of AERO 102, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Designed to give students the necessary skills to perform advanced composites construction and repair using various manufacturing methods and equipment. Consists of classroom lecture and handson practice in composite repair including complex shapes with a variety of materials. Students may be required to interpret engineering drawings. (AVC) Air Traffic Control Courses AERO 210 INTRODUCTION TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. Introduces the student to the fundamentals of aviation and air traffic control. Consists of lectures, lessons, and materials which cover basic terminology and other foundational information used in air traffic control. Includes: phraseology, strip marking, map symbols, number usage, navigational aids, aircraft types and characteristics, and pertinent Federal aviation regulations, Designed as an introductory course for those individuals interested in a career in air traffic control. (AVC) AERO 211 INTRODUCTION TO AVIATION WEATHER 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 100. General aviation weather as it pertains to Air Traffic Control. Includes: cloud types, formation of weather, air masses, fronts, pressure system, winds and types of precipitation. Operational information will include aviation routine, weather reports (METAR), pilot reports (PREPS), terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAF) and forecasts (FA). (AVC)
