Transfer Students planning to continue studies at a four-year college or university after AVC should visit the Transfer Resource Center and consult with a counselor as soon as possible. According to the California Education Code [55200 (d)] a satisfactory grade is a grade of A, B, C, or "CR" Music Courses MUS 101 *MUSIC APPRECIATION 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. A study of very basic concepts of music theory, and an overview of the stylistic periods of compositions and their unique characteristics. Students will learn to recognize the sound of different orchestral instruments. Students will develop a historical perspective with reference to classical music, and be exposed to the most prominent composers represented in each style period. (CSU, UC, AVC) MUS 102 *HISTORY OF JAZZ 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. A study of jazz music from early back- ground through current contemporary jazz styles. (CSU, UC, AVC) MUS 103 *HISTORY OF ROCK n ROLL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. A study of rock n roll music from early background through current contempo- rary rock n roll styles. (CSU, UC, AVC) MUS 104 *THE MUSIC INDUSTRY 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. A class to acquaint students with various professions in the music industry. Professions include performing, arranging/ composition/publishing, recording, music production, radio/television, writing/ critiquing, music store employment, management and ownership, unions, agents and managers, contracts, etc. Professionals will visit class, and visits will be made to selected businesses. (CSU, AVC) MUS 105 *WORLD MUSIC 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. This course will provide students with a unique perspective of the diverse musical languages of the worlds cultures, thereby reflecting the cultural diversity of, but not limited to, the AVC student population. Students will explore each geographic region of the world, learn to identify musical cultures distinguishing characteristics, and the profound impact of political and sociological ramifications upon aspects of cultural life.
