According to the California Education Code [55200 (d)] a satisfactory grade is a grade of A, B, C or CR". Computer Applications Courses CA 103 *INTRODUCTION TO MICROCOMPUTERS 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. This course is designed to teach the first- time computer user the features of a microcomputer, how a microcomputer operates, and how to select a micro- computer that best fits individual needs. Students will learn how to use the major features of popular software applications, including word processors (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), database managers (MS Access), presentation managers (MS Powerpoint), and Internet browsers. This course includes hands on operation of a microcomputer. No prior computer experience is needed. NOTE: Business majors who have completed ACCT 201, with a grade of C or better, and are planning on transferring to a university, are advised to take CA 221. Computer-oriented majors should consider CIS 101. This course approved for online instruction. Refer to current schedule of classes for availability. (CSU, UC, AVC, 2+2) CA 103L INTRODUCTION TO MICROCOMPUTERS LAB 0 units Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in CA 103. This zero-unit, no-cost, no-grade course provides access to the open computer lab to help students complete course assignments and master learning objectives. CA 107 *MICROCOMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SUPPORT 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221 or CIS 101, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 070. This hands -on course is intended to provide the student with a workable knowledge needed for the installation, set- up, and troubleshooting of hardware and software related to personal computer systems and peripheral devices. The course will cover information needed to prepare for the A+ Certification test. BEFORE ENROLLING students should be able to create folders, copy files, rename files, create shortcuts and use Windows Explorer. This course will involve problem solving and troubleshooting. (AVC) CA 110 *WORD WORDPERFECT Same course as OT 110. 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221 and OT 101, or the Ability to type 30 wam, and Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. The concepts of word processing emphasizing WordPerEect for Windows. Topics covered include basic text editing and formatting, management of files and directories, printing, fonts, tabs, headers/ footers, footnotes/endnotes, cutting and pasting, using multiple windows, and standard letter and punctuation styles. This vocational-oriented course will serve students seeking a certificate, associate degree, or desiring to transfer to a four- year institution. BEFORE ENROL- LING students should have used a word processing program to create, save, retrieve, edit and print. (CSU, AVC, 2+2) PROCESSING- CA 111 *WORD WORD Same course as OT 111. 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221 and OT 101, or the Ability to type 30 wam, and Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099.
