124 Computer Applications, Computer Networking and Computer Information Science CA 111L *WORD WORD LAB Same course as OT 111L. 0 units Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in CA 111. This zero-unit, no-cost, no-grade course provides access to the open computer lab to help students complete course assignments and master learning objectives. PROCESSING-MICROSOFT CA 121 *MICROCOMPUTER SPREADSHEETS 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221, and Eligibility for READ 099 and MATH 070. This course will study concepts of electronic spreadsheets from intermediate through advanced level. Solutions to quantitative problems will be developed in such a way that they can be modeled on a microcomputer. Topics to be covered include developing formulas, writing macro commands, formatting the spreadsheet, making graphs, linking spreadsheets, and importing/exporting data. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have used spreadsheet software to enter labels and numbers, develop formulas, save and retrieve files, build graphs, and print, as well as an understanding of how PCs, software, and peripherals work together is important. (CSU, AVC) CA 131 *MICROCOMPUTER DATABASE MANAGEMENT 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221, and Eligibility for READ 099 and MATH 070. Database management systems are covered using Microsoft Access. The relational model of database management, which is commonly used on micro and larger computers is emphasized. The course covers database design, building a model using computer software, ap- plication generators, programming in database software, structured query language, and database administration. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have used Microsoft Access database software to create the structure, enter records, reorder records, save, and print, as well as an understanding of how PCs, software, and peripherals work together. (CSU, AVC) CA 132 *ORACLE SQL DATABASE MANAGEMENT 3 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102, and Completion of one of the following: CA 103, CA 105, CA 121, CA 131, or CIS 101. This course trains students to work with the Oracle Relational Database Management System in a client/server environment. In both lecture and lab, students will learn Structured Query Language (SQL) by using the Oracle SQL*Plus tool. Proper relational database design that enforces referential integrity will be taught using schema diagrams and entity relationship diagrams. SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML) for reporting and Data Definition Language (DDL) for database creation will be covered. Students will also learn about database security issues such as database users, roles and grants. This course helps prepare students for the SQL portion of Oracle's Exam #1Z0-001. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have used database software to create a table, enter, edit and delete records, and sort the records. It is also recommended that students understand how to save and retrieve files from local network drives. (CSU, AVC) CA 133 *ORACLE PL/SQL PROGRAMMING 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 132. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099. and MATH 102. Students will develop their Oracle Relational Database Structured Query Language (SQL) skills into writing Oracle Stored Procedures using PL/SQL in a client/server environment. In both lecture and lab, students will learn PL/SQL Database Programming by using the Oracle SQL*Plus tool and a simple text editor. Proper structured programming design and formatting will be taught using flow diagrams and sample code. Students will refresh their knowledge of SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML) and Data Definition Language (DDL). Students will also learn how database security issues, such as database users, roles and grants, apply to the execution of PL/SQL code. This course helps prepare students for the PL/SQL portion of Oracle's Exam #1A0- 001. BEFORE ENROLLING students should have used SQL to extract database records, create a table, enter, edit and delete records, sort, and group records. Students should understand how to save and retrieve files from local and network drives. (CSU, AVC) CA 141 *DEVELOPING POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS 1.5 units 2 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CA 103 or CA 105 or CA 221. Students will learn how to use a presentation graphics software manager, Microsoft PowerPoint, to create various types of presentations. Students will learn how to create, edit, and insert objects in order to create the desired graphics. This will include entering text, text effects, bulleted lists, tables, organization charts, graphs, clip art, multimedia video clips, sound clips, auto layouts, and presentation templates. Students will also learn how to insert linked and embedded Word and Excel objects into PowerPoint. The output learned will include computer and projector screens, printed handouts, over- head transparencies, 35mm slides, and Web pages. BEFORE ENROLLING students should be able to perform basic operations of a personal computer including working with a keyboard and mouse;
