126 Computer Applications, Computer Networking and Computer Information Science This course will help prepare the student for Novell certification exams 570 and 575. (CSU, AVC) CA 175 *ADMINISTERING WINDOWS 2003 SERVER (formerly Administering Windows 2000 Server) 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 103 or CA 221 or CIS 101. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102. In this "hands-on" course students will create domains, administer users and groups, manage permissions and resources, and provide network resources. Students will monitor and optimize a Windows 2003 network and implement security. This course provides preparation for the MCSE exam #70-215. BEFORE ENROLLING students must have basic understanding of and experience with computer terminology, microcomputer hardware and software, and disk and file management. (CSU, AVC) CA 176 *WINDOWS 2003 NETWORKING (formerly Windows 2000 Networking) (formerly Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Networking) 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 175. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102. This course trains network administrators and support professionals to design, implement, optimize, monitor and troubleshoot networking services on a Windows 2003 server. Students will also learn TCP/IP network design, subnetting, and address resolution. Topics covered will also include DHCP, DNS, WINS, RAS, IP routing and IP security. This course provides preparation for the MCSE exam #70-216. BEFORE ENROLLING students should know how to install Microsoft 2003, create and administer user and group accounts, set share permissions, set up network printing, and audit resources and events. (CSU, AVC) CA 177 *MICROSOFT INTERNET INFORMATION SERVER 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 175. Advisory: Completion of CA 176 and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage a Microsoft Internet Information Server (Microsoft IIS). A Microsoft Internet Information Server provides Web, File Transfer, DNS, and SMTP services on the Internet. The students in this course will configure these services and create server security to prevent intruders from accessing information on the server through the Internet. Topics will include installing, creating, and fine tuning WEB, FTP, DNS and SMTP services on the Microsoft IIS Server. Students will create and manage user accounts and provide WEB document access. This course will help students prepare for Microsoft IIS Exam #70-087. (CSU, AVC) CA 178 *MICROSOFT PROXY SERVER 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 175. Advisory: Completion of CA 176 and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102. Proxy servers are used in Internet environments to provide firewall security and content cashing. A network professional who manages local area networks that are attached to the Internet must be able to protect the local area network from intruders using a firewall or proxy server. This is an advanced networking course for the student who wants to be able to plan, configure, and install a proxy server in a Microsoft environment. This course will help the student prepare for Microsoft Proxy Server Exam #70-088. (CSU, AVC) CA 182 *NETWORK SECURITY 3 units 4 hours weekly Course Prerequisite: Completion of CA 171 or CA 176. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099, and MATH 102. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive look at network security and provide students with an organized view of the field, and the tools and techniques necessary to safeguard computers and data. The course will provide preparation for the Comp TIA Network Certification exam. BEFORE ENROLLING students should under- stand IP addressing, be familiar with the TCP/IP protocol suite, and know how to configure TCI/IP addressing in a Windows environment. (CSU, AVC) CA 198 *COMPUTER APPLICATIONS SEMINARS Short courses of varying duration on specialized topics in computer applications. (Engineering and science majors consult counselors) (AVC) CA 221 *COMPUTER CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS IN BUSINESS 4 units 5 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of ACCT 201, and Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101, and Eligibility for MATH 070. This course introduces the uses of computers in business including micro- computer applications. Topics covered include hardware, software, management information systems, the Internet and the Web, and the integration of computers into business applications. Laboratory work includes learning how to use an operating system, a word processor, a spreadsheet, a database manager, presentation manager, the Internet and the Web, and a geograph- ical information system.
