A study of the principles and practices of the use of design and color in the creation of 3-dimensional representational and non-representational art forms. Students are given projects with specific points of focus (e.g., line, shape, value, and color). The critique of these projects forms a basis for students aesthetic growth and development. Lectures demonstrate practical examples of the use of color and design in works of art from the beginning of art history to contemporary trends. Computers will be used to demonstrate the uses of various elements of design and color. Introduction to the theory, basic principles and techniques of computer-generated high-resolution graphics, video ditheriz- ing, image transfer, and Fonts generation. (CSU, AVC, 2+2) (R2) CG 107 *HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY Same course as ART 107. 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101 or satisfactory completion of ENGL 101. In-depth study of the historical development of photographic process as an artistic image from the early 1800s to the present. This course will focus on world-wide artistic-photographic and social achievements of photographers. Within the context of the course, the contributions of both chemical and digital photographic techniques will be explored, as well as the relationship of the emergence of photographic imagery to other artistic media within a similar time period. (CSU, UC, AVC) CG 109 *PHOTOGRAPHY 3.5 units 7.8 hours weekly (6 hours lec/lab, 1.8 hours lab) Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. Basic black and white still photography. It is designed for students planning an occupational career in any of the following fields in which photography plays an essential part: journalism, police science, public relations, conservation, art science, astronomy, portraiture, commercial and industrial photography, and graphic design. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. An introduction to the multiple elements of computer-photographic imaging using the Macintosh microcomputer. This course is designed to provide a basic foundation in the use of photographic manipulation using various software programs. (CSU, AVC, 2+2) (R2) CG 115 *GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION I 3.5 units 7.8 hours weekly (6 hours lec/lab, 1.8 hours lab) Course Prerequisite: Completion of CG 101/MM 101. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 099. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. A broad-based introduction to the multiple elements of commercial publishing using the microcomputer. This course is designed to provide a basic foundation in the use of electronic page layout techniques including video ditherizing, image transfer, graphics production software, graphic scanners, text proc- essing, and output production devices such as laser and thermal image printers. (CSU, AVC, 2+2) (R2) CG 122 *MACINTOSH COMPUTER HARDWARE/ SOFTWARE SUPPORT Same course as MM 122. 3 units 6 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of CG 101/MM 101 and Eligibility for ENGL 101 and READ 099.
