Introduction to techniques for support of Macintosh computers and related peripheral equipment and software. This course provides the student with the necessary skills to appraise the immediate difficulty with either the CPU or the associated equipment and to initiate corrective measures to resolve the problem. This course provides the student with a broad understanding of the safety factors, necessary maintenance, proper installation and uninstallation of software, software and hardware trouble shooting at the CPU/Server level, and the effective use of technician support resources. Students will work on equipment that is not used in the instructional laboratories for other classes. (AVC) (R2) CG 123 *DIGITAL TYPOGRAPHY AND CALLIGRAPHY 3.5 units 7.8 hours weekly (6 hours lec/lab, 1.8 hours lab) Course Prerequisite: Completion of CG 101/MM 101. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 097 and READ 099. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. This course provides the student with the necessary introduction to the elements of typography and calligraphy design using the computer as the instrument of choice. Emphasis will be placed on the history and appropriate use of the typography and calligraphy as practice in the professional printing and design world using Macintosh Operating Systems (MOS) and Microsoft (MS) Windows systems. Students may have to purchase additional supplies not provided by the college. This course covers the basics associated with Web site design and production including file formats, current software applications, HTML, color and image management, design, flow charts and navigational techniques. A central focus will be on the creation of an Internet Web page. This course provides the student with a basic overview and development in computer techniques required for the production of animated productions. Topics will include palette animation, audio implementation and recording finished work to videotape or CD-ROM systems that serve cross platform operating systems such as Macintosh and Windows environments. Advanced study of the theory, basic principles, and techniques of computer- generated high-resolution graphics, video ditherizing, image transfer, and Fonts generation. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. A broad-based introduction to the multiple elements of commercial illustration using microcomputers. This course is designed to provide a basic foundation in the use of computer techniques including color paint and draw programs for the production of commercial illustrations, logos, bro- chures, etc. Included within the course are the use of video input, slide image transfer, gray scale scanners and color graphic printers, special graphic-text processing, and output production devices such as laser and thermal image printers.
