Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. Inform and train students to become familiar with the techniques and operations involved with aircraft instru- ments, communication and navigation, position and warning, cabin atmosphere, ice and rain, fire protection, aircraft electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic, and landing gear systems. Students will meet qualifying standards for the FAA comprehensive testing leading to an Airframe Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 240 *AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT I 15 units 25 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for READ 099, ENGL 099, and MATH 070. Provides instruction related to aircraft reciprocating and turbine engines. Topics include inspection, fuel systems, unducted fans and auxiliary power units. Intended for students who wish to attain FAA Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 241 *AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT II 15 units 25 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of AERO 240 (FAA minimum requirements). Advisory: Completion of AERO 120 or AERO 121, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. Provides instruction related to aircraft reciprocating and turbine engines. Topics include lubrication systems, induction systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, electrical and instruments systems, fire systems and propellers. Intended for students who wish to attain FAA Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. (AVC) AERO 280 AIRCRAFT GENERAL-WRITTEN TEST REVIEW 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility to take FAA written mechanics examination. Preparation for the FAA Aircraft General Mechanics written examination. Subject matter includes technical material relative to current practice and relevant FAA regulations. (AVC) AERO 281 AIRCRAFT AIRFRAME WRITTEN TEST REVIEW 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility to take FAA written mechanics examination. Preparation for the FAA Aircraft Airframe Structures and Airframe Systems Mechanics written examination. Subject matter includes technical material relative to current practice and relevant FAA regulations. (AVC) POWERPLANT WRITTEN AERO 199 *WORK EXPERIENCE 1-4 units hours vary Prerequisite: Students must be registered in at least 7 units (including the Work Experience units) and have approval of instructor supervising work experience subject area. Prior to enrolling, students must attend a scheduled orientation. The Work Experience program provides supervised employment extending classroom-based learning to an on-the-job learning situation. Students meet with instructor by arrangement to discuss learning objectives, along with experi- ences and/or problems arising on the job. (CSU, AVC) (R3) Air Traffic Control Courses AERO 210 INTRODUCTION TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. Introduces the student to the fundamentals of aviation and air traffic control. Consists of lectures, lessons, and materials which cover basic terminology and other foundational information used in air traffic control. Includes: phraseology, strip marking, map symbols, number usage, navigational aids, aircraft types and characteristics, and pertinent Federal aviation regulations. Designed as an introductory course for those individuals interested in a career in air traffic control. (AVC) AERO 211 INTRODUCTION TO AVIATION WEATHER 3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. General aviation weather as it pertains to Air Traffic Control. Includes: cloud types, formation of weather, air masses, fronts, pressure system, winds and types of precipitation. Operational information will include aviation routine, weather reports (METAR), pilot reports (PREPS), terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAF) and forecasts (FA). (AVC)
