On pistons having an intersecting pin bore and oil ring groove, buttons also bridge the resulting gap to support the oil ring. Buttons are available in two types: Register (fits inside wrist pin bore) and non-register Stepped (supports ring groove). Most stepped buttons are custom made to the matching piston.
