State Scholarships and Grants
The State of Maryland offers a variety of scholarships and grants
to its residents who attend Maryland colleges and universities.
Many of these programs, such as the Guaranteed Access Grant,
EducationalAssistanceGrant,andSenatorialScholarships,require
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form. Applications
must be processed no later than March 1st to be considered for state
aid. A separate application may be required. Contact the Maryland
State Scholarship administration at 1-800-974-0203, for more
information or access their Web site at www.mhec.state.md.us.

Many organizations in the five-county area served by the College
offer private scholarships. These scholarships a
| Academic Grievance Procedure
Should a difficulty arise regarding a student-initiated academic
grievance (grades, grading procedures, use of class time, etc.), the
student should seek to resolve the situation with the instructor at
an agreed-upon time outside of the instructional setting. If, after
dialogue with the instructor, the situation is not resolved, the
student shall use the following procedures:
1. Complete a statement of the difficulty using an Academic
Grievance Form available from the Office of the Vice
President for Academic Services, or the office of any of the
academic deans.
2. Submit the completed form to the Dean of Arts and Sciences
or Dean of Career and Technology, who will review the
facts, discuss the issues with all persons concerned and
attempt to resolve the difficulty to the satisfaction of all
parties. Written copies of the findings will be provided to all
persons concerned.
3. If the difficulty remains unresolved, the academic dean will

DEGREE PROGRAM PROGRAMMING OPTION
This program of study meets all the General Education Requirements at Chesapeake College.
AWARD: Associate of Applied Science Degree
PURPOSE: The Programming program was designed to give students the basic programming skills needed for employment as entrylevel programmers.
OCCUPATIONAL GOALS: Programmer Trainee Programmer Programmer/Analyst.
PROGRAM: The program prepares students for the field of computer programming. Business, technical writing, and algorithm design
courses lay the foundation for studying programming. The program will provide the student with the essentials of systems analysis;
algorithm development skills; database and programming concepts; and skills for designing, implementing, and testing computer
programs using several different programming languages, including C++ and Visual Basic. Students should consult with an academic

DEGREEPROGRAM
This program of study meets all the Maryland State General Education Requirements.
AWARD: Associate of Applied Science Degree
PURPOSE: The Physical Therapist Assistant degree program prepares students to provide physical therapy services according to the
plan of care developed by the physical therapist. The physical therapist assistant administers direct patient care; teaches patients
families, and other health care providers how to perform selected procedures; and provides desired psycho-social support to patients
and their families. Physical therapist assistants are employed primarily in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practice, extended
care facilities and home health care settings. Graduates are eligible to take the state licensing exam.
OCCUPATIONAL GOAL: Physical Therapist Assistant.

PURPOSE: The following Area of Emphasis is applicable to the Liberal Arts and Sciences Associate of Arts Degree Program (200) and
is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate program within the area
if emphasis. The program is based on specific learning outcomes and is comprised of foundation level coursework and general
education which meet academic content, outcomes, and requirements of the first two-years of a Communication Studies program.
The program is designed for part and full-time students with academic and/or professional interest in communications, including

An introduction to computer-based crimes. Students will explore
the use of computers and peripheral devices by individuals and by
organized crime in the perpetration of crime and cyber offenses,
such as cyber terrorism, information theft, identify theft, child
pornography, data corruption, and disruption of service. The
course will expose students to emerging laws of cyberspace. It will
explore methods of investigation and preventing cyber crimes and
infringementsuponinformationsecurity.Legaltopicswillinclude
laws governing e-commerce and intellectual property protections,
focusing on landmark cases such as Napster. Two hours lecture,

Student Transfer Policies
Authorization
These Student Transfer Policies, as adopted by the Maryland
HigherEducationCommission,willsupersedethetransferpolicies
in effect since 1972, as modified and adopted in 1979. These policies
shall be effective and applicable to students first enrolling in
Maryland public post-secondary educational institutions in Fall
1990, and thereafter.
Applicability of Policies
These transfer policies and procedures apply to admission, credit
transfer, program articulation, and related matters for
undergraduate students who wish to transfer between Maryland
public colleges and universities. The Maryland Higher Education
Commission also recommends them to Maryland independent
institutions.
Rationale
A major premise of the Maryland public higher education system
is that a student should be able to progress from one segment of
higher education to another without loss of time or unnecessary
